THANKS for feedback guys
The cars going in to the dealer shortly..

I would love to give more details, but am holding back due to the fact that Chevy hasn't given the green light on repairs.

I am gonna push for a new motor on this one, not a patch job assuming its engine internal like it appears to be on this one.

I'll repeat what was told to me by two dealers. They focus on the terms "racing or competitive driving may affect the warranty." In other words , don't go enter any "track attack" type events, etc. But both said that simply driving on a track does not void their obligations under the warranty. They also both said they will look at the damage and seek it's cause, if possible. If there's evidence you missed a couple of downshifts and over revved the motor, you've given them an opening to reject any warranty claim.

My discussions with each dealer were in the context of "I am definitely going to take this car to the track. I won't race it or enter any competitive events. Will that void warranty work on the engine?" Both answered "No, but......." The reason I wanted to know is, if the warranty was getting voided anyway, I was going head first into modding the car with either heads, headers and a tune or pull the original motor intact and install a built motor.

Unless I'm missing something here, why was the ECU flashed when there were no mods and on stock tune?

Keep your warranty book handy, and know the what is covered and what is not covered sections very well.

Make sure they determine the "cause" of the problem. That is the key. If it is a defect in material or workmanship, it is covered. If racing damage is the cause, not covered. Damage vs Defect. A really good tech will know a warranty repair when seen, versus damage. They should be able to explain exactly what is wrong and what caused it. Can't just blame it on a track. A track doesn't hurt motors, a part defect or driver does. For an experienced engine tech, it should be quite evident what happened and best route to fix it.

I hate to see this thread get derailed on the whole "what is and isn't covered under warranty discussion", correct me if I am wrong but I don't think that was the OP's intention. The bottom line and its in the manual. If they think its from abuse, they can void it, track use or street use. Just because two dealers say that tracking it alone won't void your warranty doesnt mean thats the the case. They could still call it competitive driving. There have been enough threads on this subject to know that they evaluate on an individual basis. Its my belief that driving the car hard on the street as like it is on the track alone is not considered abuse, clearly thats not the case.

It cracks me up that a GM rep never steps in and comments on this subject, yet they are all over this forum.

He is saying he is glad he did not tune it as look what happened. Just worded differently.

Good luck to the op on getting this car back up & running!

Its built for racing and that is what they advertise the car for to sell it. They race the shit out of them and if it was to be driven easy it would not be advertised for racing...

That's wrong, read your owner's manual.

There are ads that show Altima's on a race track, that doesn't mean they have a special track warranty.

Read your owner's manual and warranty info, track use may void your warranty.
