With all that being said. Hellcats dynoing well over 600 to the wheels and most ZL1's barely break 500 stock. The ZL1 doesn't need a whole lot more hp to be even more competitive.

yes 800hp gross not sae rated and SAE rating is not wheel HP. SAE rated takes into acound engine accesories etc etc but drivetrain loss.

to the wheels they are in the 620-660range depending on dyno and transmission. 0 stock hellcats have hit 700+ hp on the chasis dyno.

gross hp is engine total output right to a dyno.

SAE HP is net power as installed

wheel HP is power to the ground (dyno's vary quite a bit though)

this is why a 400hp car from today is way faster than a 400hp car from the 60's. net vs gross HP rating.

Thanks for the explanation.

The 3rd gen CTS-V will be the true test of the LT4 platform that will ultimately be stuck in the next ZL1/Z-28.

The real problem is that damn 1.7L pullied blower on top of a 6.2L motor regardless of what cooling advances are made. GM missed the mark on this thing. Look at the size of the blower on the Hellcat. Then go backward to the ZR1 with a 2.3L blower rated 638 hp in 2009. We are going backward with the LT4

I was surprised it took this long for this to be mentioned.... The CTS-V has already been announced with the LT4. Packing 640hp/630tq. It's highly likely the ZL1 will get the same.

60 more HP on a 200-300lb lighter platform over the current ZL1= win. I see low 11s right off the showroom floor.

And I agree as well. While the C7 Z06 is an incredible machine, I'm not really pleased with the LT4.

This would be fantastic if it did come 640hp. I am reading everyone is saying the blower is a 1.7 but I thought it was the 1.9 on the ZL1's?

The LT4 in the Z06 and upcoming CTS-V has a 1.7L. The LSA in the current ZL1 has a 1.9L

The ZL1's LSA engine has 1.9. The Z06's new LT4 has a 1.7 that spins faster (heat) to accommodate the Vettes low hood. This was a mistake that will compromise the Camaro.

The description says it put down 668hp bone stock. Compensating for a 15% driveline loss, that puts it at 768.2hp at the crank. Not quite 800hp, but more than the 707 rated horse.
It's much more likely that the Hellcat Drivetrain (transmission) is simply more efficient and eats less than the standard 15% drivetrain loss...

Ok. Let's say it is more efficient and it only has a driveline loss of 10%. That still puts the crank hp at 735. Not too shabby.

I have seen nothing from ford and I have seen no test data on any new power plant to date. the just got the 5.2L certification june 30th.

if they do something like that it will most likely be 2017 model unless they really fast track it.

I had a link and it was from Fords site saying they were going to make only 300
initially of the GT500 with at least 750 HP

I don't understand the "underrated" hp comments regarding the hellcat. That is the purpose of the SAE Certified ratings...so manufacturers can't under or over rate their engines. If they are indeed underrated then that throws out the validity of the SAE ratings.

So why did "310hp" LS1 engines dyno 290-315+hp at the wheels?
