I was only 14 that day, a freshman in HS.. I was called down to the principal's office for some thing I can't even remember anymore. As I walked back to class I passed through the cafeteria which has a pair of TVs usually on CNN or what not. As I walked past I noticed a burning building but thought nothing of it..

It was 8:50ish.

I returned to class and took my seat, 2nd row, first seat. The same thing was on the TV in the class room and with some watching in awe, others just dallying around and gossiping. I had not been paying too much mind but at the time wondered what was really happening.

Then. At 9:03 I looked up at the TV. The only one at the time. I called out:

"There's another plane!"

And as I did it exploded in a fan of flaming wreckage and Jet A. I sat there in silence.. for the next hour watching and again calling out as the first tower fell..

"There it goes!"

I didn't stay to watch the 2nd fall.. I was just.. I didn't know what to think. I was 14.. and I saw what amounted to what my grandfather saw at age 15 on Sept 7 1941. He joined the Navy in 1943 and was shipped out to the Kadashan Bay in late 44. Survived a pair of kamikaze attacks that took some of his friends, and made it home safe.

Today I think I'll ask my dad for his house number, and thank him..

Then scold him for his stupid idea of drinking wine while on pain killers for that bum knee. He's my only grandpa left. My maternal grandpa died years ago, not serving in the war but rather at the Lorain Ford plant.

God bless the USA, and god bless those that serve, have served, and plan to serve. I would not be able to enjoy the life I have now.. the ability to enjoy the Camaro, Mustang, and my freedoms if it weren't for them.
