Ok here is what i did, I had some orange peel as well, I took some 1000 grit wet sand paper-hand sanded the entire car and then used some 3M polishing compound and a variable speed Dewalt buffer. Car finish looks like glass!

I would caution you that GM screwed us on the paint and to be very careful that you dont break thru the clear coat. The 3M polishing compound and variable speed buffer will bring back the luster- again be careful here as well, you could burn the paint. Work small areas at as time don't be in a hurry and the reward is amazing.

Sure wished they would have color sanded at the factory!!!!

I have done this on almost every vehicle I have owned over my 30+ Years of owning. My ole man painted cars as a hobby.

Just my experience,
Mike

My black car looks a little scratched up after the dealer did the paint protection option on it. You can only see it in direct sunlight. Wishing I wouldn't have gotten it now. Hopefully I can buff it out.

I was told by a GM painter that the orange peel is by design to extend the life of sun exposure etc...just what I heard, I am no authority so don't go ape spit on me

No orange peel on our RJT. Could be due to the extra step in the process for this color (extra $300 also!).

Regarding orange peel by design...never heard of that one!

Thats a really good idea, but my advice for anyone who is going to try it- start off with 2000 grit, and work your way down to something rougher only on the spots that need it. That way it's not quite so easy to sand through the clear.

I agree GM needs to do something about their paint quality if they want people to take them serious again. But to look on the bright side, be glad y'all didn't buy a Toyota. Those things have some of the absolute nastiest orange peel I think I've ever seen on a new car.

How does a manufacturer wet sand and polish a mass produced vehicle?

Orange peel gives the paint texture doesn't make different panels look different colors, I'll see if I can go outside and snap some pics of a car with it (mine) and one without.

My rally yellow has some orange peel, so does my dad's corvette.. It just comes with the territory now-a-days.

Theres no way I would recommend to anyone to try and wetsand their whole car. Especially with the thin amount of paint they put on the cars nowadays. It can be done but its best to leave it to a professional or someone who doesnt mind a repaint if they mess it up.

The cheapest car that gets that done is a Lexus. I am doing mine panel by panel over the winter. I dont recommend anyone doing this that hasnt done it alot. There are only two ways to do this job right. 1-Doing it perfect, 2-Doing it perfect. I have done full wetsands on over 200 cars in the past 5years. From Chev to Lambos. It takes alot of time, patience and skill. Not only the right materials and feel for the block and the cut/polish. I do over 6 figures a year doing this and have exotics trailered into me. Be careful.
