Actually...100 lbs is about equal to 10hp in terms of power to weight, and the Maggie's got that covered...and Pedders managed to eek 1.3+ Gs out of the Camaro with their suspension/tire setup...combined, that may be enough to at least stay on the ZR1s tail on the track...

wasn't that 1.3G a peak, not sustained?

I'm not sure to be honest. All I remember is that they recorded 1.3Gs under cold, wet conditions. Pete said he thinks under correct conditions, that could have been as high as 1.5-1.7 Gs.

No, if they had, the mustang would be closer the camaro, as it is more of a "track" oriented car, where as the camaro is more of a drag oriented car. Still impressive that the mustang can hang so close on such a top end oriented track. The time for the mustang was with the track pack, minus the tires which although are the biggest factor of the track pack, would not make up the 4 second difference. At best, it would pick up 2 1/2, maybe 3. Still not enough to surpass the more powerful camaro.

Aren't these the same people that said the Camaro was painful to drive around a track, and its lack of handling made getting the car around corners a lot of work? I just remember the pro-driver they brought in talking about how disappointing it was...

sounds like you just made that up and then put it out there as a fact.

Straight line speed, the camaro is very good at it and that is its main focus. Mustangs are more focused on overall performance (not that the camaros can't turn and mustangs can't go over 80, but you get the gist) in regards to road courses, instead of huge top end speed.

Beerman- What part sounds made up? (and don't say all of it, point out the part you disagree with). The tires on the mustang are probably the biggest component to the track pack option and make the most difference, as the stock suspsension is already very good, even more so with smaller options such as the 3.73 rear axle.

Interesting take...I've never heard that before, though...everyone (even at GM) seems to hold the Camaro as a jack-of-all trades. Ditto for Mustang, they just go about it different ways.
