As mentioned in the beginning of the thread there is a place in South Texas called "The Texas Mile" that's in Goliad country. It's an old landing strip that the navy used for touch-and-go's. You pay a bit and get a few runs in to get to your speed and have a little paper that verifies how fast you've gone.

It might be going away soon. Beeville is trying to buy it from Goliad so that they (Beeville) can donate it back to the navy and be used for it's previous purpose. The problem is, is that people have purchased land around the strip and built their houses. They aren't wanting to live next to a strip where jets come in, touch the strip, then punch it out of there. It's a big mess right now.

Just to clarify, you get your top speed in one mile, not Vmax.

There are quite a few events such as this around the US, not sure of any up in the Tri State Area though?

The airstrip in the vid I posted above is out in the Everglades about 1h from Miami. Dade Collier Airfield is a back up strip fort both MIA and Nasa. 10,000ft long and 200ft wide!

Didn't realize it was such a mess down there at Texas Mile. I work the events in for timing and scoring.

I was told by a dodge engineer they said they put a limiter in because insurance companies like to hear that..

My old car I got up to 160mph.. got a video of it doing 150mph when I just got it totally stock..

the camaro havent found the right road so only got it up to about 126mph before i let go of it.. ( i say about because I seen 126mph not sure if jumped up to 127 or 128 before I glanced up and let go.. )

Always cars on the road.. and Im done with being reckless and passing people at high speed.. I dont care if I kill myself but Im not going to kill anyone else..

also isnt there a mile strip in GA too?

It's electronically limited at 155, but if you get a tune it can be defeated. I think I saw that someones top speed was 178 somewhere...

mtcwby has GPS verified top speed of 186 after getting his Vortech S/C installed, there is a thread somewhere that shows his GPS display, not sure what anyone has gotten it up to stock and only removing the 155 limit in the ECM

Edit; found one reference to ti;

Drove very well, didn't get too light in the front, no wind noise, etc. I have the GM GFX also on my car, so that probably helps also.
The Camaro is very aerodynamic, contrary to what alot of people seem to think. The drag coefficient is .37 without the gfx. The Mustang drag coefficient is .46, now that's like an anchor.
I don't know where you get you're numbers from, but .37 is not good at all.... where did you get those numbers from?

I doubt the GFX does anything to help. And 0.37 isn't anything special for a modern car. Its not bad, but its not really anything to brag about either. Particularly when the drag isn't a result of a downforce trade off.
