Well its just 3 months and the fact that im single gives me the time to do it. and the money im gonna save down the road when i start making payments will far outweigh the long days put in. then i can afford a house, a family, or rent far easier

What a perfect coincidence since my Camaro should be here the following day and I can drop that money on the downpayment and be on my way with my new Camaro and back to just my regular day job. I called about it and got the job but I must really be desparate for this camaro because my regular job is mon-fri 8am to 3:30pm and then this new job is mon-thurs 4pm to 2am. So for the next 3 and a half months it looks like I will have absolutely no life at all but working 17.5 hours a day. Hope I can get enough sleep to manage it since this second job is a half hour drive from my home and I work so late and have to be up for a little after 7am to get ready to be at my regular day job for 8am which is about a 20 minute drive to get to. my new evening job starts next monday.

Just wondering also, has anyone else here taken on another job just for the Camaro?
That is called motivation

On weekends...........sleep............watch DVD's.......sleep.......

But this will be your best summer................ever

+1.

The job ends at the end of april. The snow will be gone and the nice weather will be here. perfect time to enjoy your ride and the smaller payments. 3 months of hell is a small price to pay.

Well it was a long time ago and it wasn't a second job stacked on top of a 'regular' job... but many many years ago I took a break from college and took a welding job during the swing shift.

Seeing your question reminded me of those 'good ole days' way back when. I guess I never adjusted to the time - the last three hours would just kill me.

I quit and went back to school full time after I spent a whole shift welding parts on upside down!

The shop foreman was cool, he could have chewed by butt out for the next 30 years (that's how long ago it was)... instead he just shook his head and made me toss everything into the scrap pile. After I saw the amount of material wasted I really got the concept of getting things right.

I guess the shop never heard of the Japanese concept of "Poka-Yoke" back then... otherwise they would have designed the jigs so the parts only fit one way (not that I didn't have anything to do with putting the part together backwards...)

Thanks for making me think of that!

Let us know in a few weeks how you're doing. lol I've been down that road before about 10 years ago when I bought my then new truck. I was burning the candle at both ends for a while till I got a big raise and a promotion at my main job and told the second job see ya later. That schedule is gonna be tough. Good luck with it, and remember when you are exhausted and cranky just think about you're car and that it's only for a while.

Oh yeah, and I've also since sold my dirtbike and work special events for the campus during basketball games.
TommyT,

I could make an assumption that with the user name you are an architect student, but assumptions are ahemmm... What are you majoring in if you don't mind me asking... and are you close to graduation...??

Am I the only one who thinks that welding after you have been awake 18 hrs is probably not a good idea....last time i checked you could do some real damage while welding if you arent careful.

well Im just doing short welds sticking small pieces together. Nothing too major since Im starting with little expierience so it will be extremely repetitious but not hard. i better stock up on red bull shots, lol.

Yikes!!!After 4 days of work, you will at best have 16 hours of sleep. And then you go in to work on Friday until 3:30 pm..that's another 8.5 hours up time. So if my math is correct for 24 x 4 = 96 + 8.5 = 104.5

You will have slept for 16 hours during a 104.5 hour stretch.

Welding and driving will become very challenging with that kind of lack of sleep. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as catch up sleep in that short time period either.

You have great initiative and drive, but you must know your limits.

Be safe

look for a job overseas... It pays 6 figures! Welders are handy and the military vehicles need it after they get blown up....
