I swapped my factory fill for 4 qts of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF in my manual tranny today and the synchronizers are DEFINATELY liking it. It was cold outside but the shifts were all improved. You can easily tell the synchros are doing thier job better now. I haven't noticed any downside to this change. If you want smoother shifts then installing this fluid it worth the trouble. I bought it at Pep Boys for about $7.50 a quart so the cost was very reasonable for the improvement you get.

As was stated before - do not get the Dexron VI version. You want the multiple vehicle formula. The label on the bottle is a bit confusing but if you stay away from the Dexron IV you will be fine.

After reading through this thread I decided to give the Mobil 1 ATF a try. Sure enough, there is a noticable difference in how the synchros engage, especially in and out of 2nd. A touch quieter too! I drained out 3.4 quarts of factory fluid and replaced with approximately 3.7 quarts of Mobil 1 ATF ($6.49/qt). I took someone elses advice and used 4ft of 1/2" tubing and funnel to refill from the engine bay. Just snaked the tubing down by the break fluid reservoir and stuck the tube 3" into the "fill" port. Couldn't be easier. Whole process was faster than changing the oil and made a difference you can feel, especially in cooler weather.

Nope, no additives in the tranny.

If the gear lube you use says on the bottle that it contains limited slip additives, then you don't have to add any more. I used Royal Purple in the diff and it already has limited slip stuff in it. Make sure to use the correct weight rating. I used RP 75w90 Max Gear.

I put Royal Purple Synchromax in my trans - best stuff I have ever used in a Tremec, it shifts like butter now. Pricey though, 17 bucks a qt, but well worth it.
