Because computers have not and will never 'error' right?

I prefered it when the computers wernt involved with the automatic transmissions.

With a trans tune the A6 can be quite impressive for a daily driver. Without the trans tune, it's a little boring.

IMHO, this question relies more with the driver than the specific car... I mean, IF an "experienced" M6 driver can perform a solid launch and hit the mark at the right shift points, M6 all the way... In most cases though, like said before, the A6 over many runs will prove to be more consistent...

Note: Just my experience... More Manuals vs. Auto's hit the tracks from what I've seen... All cars in general...

Stock the M6 with the extra horsepower and significantly less transmission power loss will win. Most M6 cars are putting about 370 hp to the rear wheels, the A6 cars only have 315-320 hp to the wheels. However with some transmission tuning and a new stall converter my A6 with 360 hp to the wheels has run 12.40's and has more in it, which is faster than any of the stock M6 cars have run even though the put down more power. Humans just can't shift faster than a computer.

However if you like banging gears the enjoyment of the M6 can't be replaced by an auto.

I don't have the time this morning to go through the entire thread to count (see the post by NHRA Stocker), but if you look at the top 30, 17 were manuals and 13 were automatics. It's likely there were quite a few more times submitted.

It's all we have to go on though, right now. And, my comment was in answer to someone saying "A6's are faster in the quarter mile". As of right now, that is just not true, and the numbers back that up. Everything else is personal opinion.

Also, I'm talking about STOCK A6's vs M6's. Once you start modding everything goes out the window.

Although, OrangeChevy does post the top times in 2 of the 3 other categories, and he's a M6.

Just a follow up. I'm not trying to hate on Automatics here. Just trying to inject fact into what has been more opinion than anything else.

Also, stock vs stock is going to be the main measuring stick here, because as soon as you start modding it generally becomes apples to oranges rather than Washington Golden Delicious to Fuji Apples.

Case in point? Fastest 2010 Camaro 1/4 mile is currently held by a manual.

Many of you have probably seen the Hennessey vs. Super Cobra vs modded Challanger video by Motor trend? Camaro came up on top, but you can bet that Ford people are complaining about "but with better tires we would have destroyed you".

Until people with stock Auto's start posting faster times in the 1/4 mile here, the only fact we have here at C5 is that the top 4 positions in 1/4 mile times are held by Manuals. And until that changes, saying Automatics are faster is going against the FACTS we have at our disposal.

As others have said, Auto's will be more consistent. But, consistent doesn't mean faster.

The Auto is FASTER.. AND very consistant no miss shifts. With both the A6 & the M6 being tuned and the TCM on the A6 and both being bolt on mods Headers and CAI the Auto's are turning faster 1/4 mile time than the Stick. 26. d69Chris - 13.56 @ 104.07 mph, (Exhaust, CAI), (L99, A6)

The TOP 5
The 12.5's and under are Auto's=4 Stick=1

Also the only reason there even one is a stick in TOP 5 list is he's running Drag Radials !!!!

You can talk all you want why yours is better .. but here's the true facts!! is not a drivers race.. The Auto will always win!

I have driven them both and to be Honest here with no Mod's it's a drivers race .. But with Tunes and lite Mod's Like for Like The Auto will really shine!!

As soon as you move away from stock vehicles, it's all about the mods, tunes and other gear. It's more of a one-upsmanship thing than anything else. Someone always has better gear (as your comment about Drag Radials suggests).

Again...show me STOCK A6's dominating, and you don't see them. After that, it's all about how much money and effort you put into modding your car.

Automatics are about consistency. But, in either case, right now...Manuals are fastest until you get an Automatic that's built better than OrangeChevy. Till then, I still don't see Automatics as faster since they didn't beat his time. Claiming otherwise is sort of like saying Indianapolis won the Super Bowl.

.
I see you have a Stick .. So your a little Biased. I wasn't talking about who has more or better gear .. it was a simple Headers and a tune .. nothing fantastic here.. The Auto's do dominate!! But as you were saying Stock- With Road and Track and Edmonds etc. they have the auto a little quicker 0-60 and the stick at 13.0 in the 1/4 and the Auto at 13.1 They are close and there are more sticks at the track .. Iam not knocking the Stick I love them both. But most people will do Headers CAI and a tune if they want a step up from stock and all being equal the Auto's are taking well to these and are setting themselves ahead of the sticks..
And your comment about beating OrangeChevy with his Drag Radials.. are we talking Top 5 or Top 10 or car is number 1?
because if it's Top 5, 10, 25 the Auto's win.

No offense, but if you have to ask, then I doubt you are at a level to notice a difference. I have the MN6 but I think I would have been just as happy with the A6 power-feel wise. But in my opinion, the A6 console appearance is blah.

Why can't people just stick with the facts. I thought we were talking STOCK. That means (in case the word STOCK is not clear) no modifications. No trans tunes, headers, etc. What's so hard to understand about the word STOCK?

I could care less which is faster but the auto guys always make themselves (and others with autos) look bad when they keep saying that the auto (with a tune) is faster than a stock manual.

One would think that the list of times for the STOCK cars would be as good of an answer as you're going to get.

So, all things being equal - A6 quicker to 60 mph... M6 quicker to 1/4 mile.

P.S. neither are 'faster'... both are electronically speed limited to 155 mph!
As far as stock .. I agree

I didn't say a Stock Manual .. I said A manual with headers and a tune also the Auto will win.

Man ohh Man the Manual's just want to find a way to say there better ... I don't blame you.. who wants to hear Stock for Stock they are just about equal then throw in if they both have a Tune with Headers the Auto wins.. It will kinda piss you off if you have a stick ... But lets all just get along .. I think this post says it all ....
