Well aren't you just a smarty-pants!!! I figured it had to do with the altitude, but wasn't really sure EXACTLY why up here (above 3000') we only have 91 and down south around sea level we have 93.

I noticed this a few years ago and started asking around about WHY we never have 93 around here. I ended up speaking to a chemical engineer in the oil fields about it and he walked me through it.

The funny part is, you can tell when you're coming "down from the mountain" when you start seeing 93 popping up at gas stations everywhere.

Gas station in a said area will have the fuel adjusted right for it, 93 at a 3000ft station would not be the same 93 at a sea lvl station.

The only time you need to consider that is when travling, it comes up allot on motorcycle websites as most are still carbs and your tune and where you buy your gas can make for a crappy ride in places.

A discovery show once said there was over 300 different blends of gas used in the US.

---

And yep SI its nice to get some racing fuel from time to time for no other reason then to add that smell as it only takes a few gallons to make it all smell that way out the pipe.

One more thing to consider. Here in NY its 10% or HIGHER ethanol in the fuel. Limited stations have Eth free gas and we pay more for it (you would think it would be less-----Rip off artists), My 2002 T/A ran like crap on the ethanol stuff, Then I upgraded. Big difference so thats all I run in the Camaro...93 No Ethanol------$4.00 a gallon.

Use 87 octane only, I ran a couple of tanks of 89 and didn't notice any difference, except the exhaust tips were black with carbon....

You Cali guys might want to look around. I found a no name station by my house that has 100 and 110 at the pumps. The 110 nozzle does not fit the fill pipe but the 100 one does. I put 4 gallons of 100 in and then topped off with 91.

I found a place that has 100 at the pump too. A previously mentioned by others, would running a few gallons of it be the practical thing to do or can you run a full tank of it? I guess my question would be "Is it safe to run a tank of that stuff every once in a while"?

Since you live in McKinney, you probably bought from El Dorado - and those guys are idiots. They were the ones who wouldn't sell me a car (2 months ago) unless I agreed to over sticker. Went to Huffines in plano, and ordered a car for MSRP minus CU discount. I will never go near that place again . . . Losers.
