As an ex-pro window film installer, I can say that cars with indexing are a pain in the @ss. It's nothing new though, and all experienced installers have dealt with this before. Definately no need to pull fuses or anything else. If you want to force your windows to roll all the way up, simply take your finger and push downward on the door latch mechanism until it clicks twice. Pull the regular door handle to return to normal.
Quality installers do a couple of things different to deal with the indexing: 1) When installing the film, you have to make sure that the bottom of the film goes well below the door panel molding. It is NOT necessary to take off the door panel to accomplish this. In fact, I'd probably be rather upset if somebody was yanking off the door panels of my new car for a simple tint job. Anyway, with the edge of the film well inside the door panel, there is less likelyhood of catching on the molding when the window indexes - even if the film isn't completely cured. 2) You have to cure the bottom portion of the film as much as you can before returning the customer's car. Heat guns and heat lamps help speed up this process. If you are getting your car tinted in the cold months, don't use a mobile installer. There is a lot to be said for having your car inside a well heated shop with (hopefully) a couple of heat lamps set on the windows to get the maximum cure time before returning the car to the cusomer. I'm not sure how the mobile guys ever do consistentlly good installations anyway. If you can't control your environment, you can't control your install quality, but I digress... Even the best installers have windows on cars with and without indexing that sometimes peel up. It's no biggie, all reputable shops should fix it no questions asked. |

I had my windows tinted 7 months ago and never even thought about the window indexing.
My tint was not affected in any way by the window indexing. |
