Taillight tints

So, I have seen a lot of posts on here regarding taillight and side marker tinting. It seems like more people are fans of tinted covers (such as headlight armor) but I was wondering what the perk is for a cover as opposed to just getting the taillights tinted the same way a window gets tinted.

The reason I ask is because I am going to get my windows tinted and the place doing it said they would give me a better deal if I wanted to do the taillights and side markers as well.

I've done the search for the answer but it seems like the posts that already exist go like this...

Person 1: Tinted covers are better
Person 2: Film tint is better

Hence my predicament lol. Thanks!

Edit: By the way, I have read the reasons manufacturers of each provide I was just looking for the opinion of on-manufacturer of tint materials.

I've been looking at this, but have not gotten it yet. I think the plus side of using the film is that it can be removed. Resale value. If you sell the car or just want the stock look later in life, you can remove the film.

If this intrests you, I noticed the reverse lights are not shown with the tail light covers. Need to ask lamin-x about that.

Well, I went back and re-read your post. I see you are still talking about film anyway. So, I guess if the price is right, I don't know if there is a difference other than maybe thickness. They market Lamin-x as protective.

Not exactly sure what the question is as our lighting kits are all adhesive backed. More info in our vendor thread here

The shop that is going to tint your windows may very well use something similar to our kits (or they might actually use our kits). In that case you are likely fine. Just make sure they are not going to try window tint on the lights. Hope that helps.

Is it bad to use window tints on lights? I think that is what they do.

As of right now Headlight Armor is my first choice. But I was just wondering about the window tints on the taillights. Sorry about my question being poorly worded. I just read it and was wondering what I was trying to say lol.

I met a guy that had his taillight lenses tinted with a "black candy" paint and clearcoat. It looked awesome... does anyone know about "black candy" paint? I have an autobody friend that doesn't know what I am talking about.

I really want this done to mine.

Window tint is designed for glass on the inside of the vehicle, not on a plastic lens outside. You might be able to fit it but it might not last long and it will likely be hard to remove down the road. Given that your tint shop may use a much thicker material designed for lights, just ask them to be sure.

We have heard of a few drops of gloss black being added to a clear coat and then sprayed onto the lenses. It is a difficult process but can look great when done. It is more difficult to get light to shine through with paint - just the nature of paint. It is also relatively permanent. Just keep that in mind when working out a contingency plan for if somebody doesn't like your tinted lights, or for when you sell or turn in your vehicle off lease.

Lots of options available.

While not being as inexpensive as covers and tallight film, we do offer a taillight lense smoking service. Go here for the pricing:
http://www.cleancutcreations.com/catalogpage3.html

These lenses were smoked using our process. This is done with a transparent (candy) black, clearcoated, and polished to a high gloss. This is a permanent mod. (sort of) We can provide the service only to your existing lights, or we sell new lights outright with the service already done. This way you can re-install the original lights if you want to sell in the future. The running and brake lights shine through well and I think you can see through these better than covers. Not to mention they look cleaner and not so bulky.

Below are some light we just finished for a customer.

+1,

but I can't drive to Illinois for this and I wont pay $465 for tinted taillights

any chance I can get you to spill the beans about the paint code / supplier for the "black candy" color?

It seems like may taillight/side marker tints are too dark for my taste. Might just be me. I think I like the idea of a 40%-50% tint on the taillights.

I just need to see that in person though. It's hard to judge how it will look in pictures IMO.

What about trying Night Shades paint that can be bought at any Advance Auto Parts store?
