...so how about these camera vans on the side of roads and through intersections?

I'm anxiously awaiting tickets in the mail from Arizona since I know I was busted at least three times that trip.

I've heard of some but???

Try a search for radar detector install. Someone posted a good thread on here several months ago when he hardwired using wiring going to the mirror.

If you have a smart phone, you can get an app that will alert you to active radar enforcement or active and historic radar enforcement areas.

Pretty neat actually....and it is dead nuts accurate. We were running radar and got an update within 1-4 minutes in 5 different areas.

On topic, Cobra SUCKS. Escort Passport or Valentine 1 are about as good as each other, if you want to buy a crappy one, don't waste the money.

But honestly you need to learn how to drive the car without speeding.

Radar detectors WILL help you, but mostly only for speed traps, when they are actively scanning traffic you WILL spot it (not with a cobra hehe) and be able to slow down.

Also depending on where you live, they may need to do more than on hit.

They hit you once, and hit you again to verify your speed.

That COMPLETELY depends on where you are though so...

Again, you really need to learn how to drive the car safely. I understand the throttle gets you into the upper atmosphere in a hurry (which btw is why he said SS, sorry but are we going to try to say the V6 gets you carried away just like the SS now too?) but the end of the day you need to be able to drive the car safely.

my wife bought me a cobra for christmas, still havent opened and don't have the heart to tell her I dont want it. In the last month I have gotten two tickets, and a radar detector wouldn't have helped in either one

I have both the Valentine V1 and the Escort 9500ix.
The V1 is a bit more sensitive to local K and Ka, but it also indicates laser when there isn't any...happens quite a bit. I think it's because of specific car tail lights using LED's.
It also goes off constantly on shopping center X band door actuators. That part is a big nuisance, although you get to know the sound it makes, different than K or Ka. Still, it seems to always go off.

The 9500ix, it has a GPS built in which tells you where the red-light cameras are. Also, it can memorize shopping center annoyances and automatically lock them out - because of that GPS reference. That's a great concept. The unit is quiet until it needs to be noisy. It has a voice as well, if you prefer to use it. I also have the "shifter" option, but did not install it yet: This is the laser "jammer" system part of it.

I use the Escort in the Camaro, and the V1 in my Traverse...they both are great advance warning devices, the Escort being a bit more tolerable.

I stopped using them years ago. If you get pulled over with a detector on your dash, it always guaranteed a ticket!
