I can only imagine how much a camaro like that would cost. The materials involved in making it that lightweight.

Now the 2012 posts are starting, I heard the 2014 Camaro is going to wash itself, they are going to put the windshield washer sprayers all over the car to keep it clean. If you wait until 2015 there will be a knob inside that you can turn and the outside will change to the different production colors for that year. In 2017.......

2017 the keyfod will have a button that will make the car fold up into a 4 x 4 x 1/16 inch cube so you can carry it in your wallet. Though that feature may be delayed for safety reasons related you accidently pressing the button while it is still in the wallet.

Are you sure he didn't mean 2014-15? Thats when the Camaro will switch to the new platform with the CTS. Much lighter, but no way for 2012. They need to milk this one for all they can.

I wrote to GM and said one way to make ur CamaroSS better is to have a 3.73 gear option like ford does with the 2011 Mustang GT. If they could shave 250 pounds off the car would be more nimble and predictable while driving agressive

could you imagine a 400+hp 400+tq miata!!! with some sticky tires that thing would pull the front wheels from the factory!

LOL, have to maintain a certain level of integrity in here..............sometimes.

My Sky weighs in at just under 3,000 pounds. Taking a 1,000 pounds off of the Camaro and maintaining a V8 and 4 seats would take nearly a miracle of engineering...................and a liberal application of unobtainium.

Entire car made of carbon fiber? Well except the drive train.

Would hate to get in a wreck though.

I hope that you are right about this, but I doubt it. Shave a thousand pounds off of the Camaro and you have a Vette Killer and GM will not let the pony beat the horse. All Chevrolet needs to do to make the SS whip the Mustang is to offer a track pack with the 3.73 gears like the Mustang has. There is no magic in what Ford did, they beefed up the engine and lowered the final drive ratio. I believe that the Camaro is somewhere around 3.43 to 1 for the LS3 and 3.23 to 1 for the L99. Years ago I had a 57 Ford that I dragraced. It had been converted fron an automatic and had 3.04 gears. I changed them to 4.57 gears and the difference was remarkable.

I could see them maybe peeling 200-300 lbs off but that wouldn't be an easy task. Removing 1000 lbs? No way. Changing out the exhaust, front brake rotors, and shocks with Pedders Xa Coilovers has removed 70 lbs from mine. I have a few more ideas that I think can pull another 35 lbs or so. They could probably find another 150 lbs in reduction by redesigning the frame. But I don't see any way they could remove 1000 lbs unless they switched to a central tunnel monocoque chassis and chromoly suspension components which would double the price of the car. Not gonna happen.
