There must be something wring with my car then. I have a M6 exhaust on my L99 from the cats back. So I have no huge resonator anymore and a muffler delete. Mine sounds great and have little to no droan inside.

Try using the tap shift. I never use anything else. (I know I don't have the V8 but I figure trying the tap shift would be a lot cheaper than the ding you're going to get on trade)
Cheers!

The AFM drone drove us crazy too. Add headers and an SLP exhaust and it made it much worse. Our AFM is turned off and is staying off

This is the worst reason to take multiple thousands of dollars in loss I've ever heard. For the same loss of money, you could replace your entire exhaust again, tune out AFM, and be happy in your automatic.
If you don't like a feature, it can be removed.

As I prefer a manual, I WAS considering the automatic, BUT after reading specs and the L99 with cylinder deactivation I KNEW no way I was going to have THAT on a Camaro SS.
Sorry to hear about your problems. |

I went with mangnaflow competition axle back and started to notice the AFM. Could not hear it with the stock mufflers. Wife makes fun of the drone noise. She say it sounds like a VW beetle lol. On S mode it sounds great or when i step on it

I had my AFM tuned out when I got my headers and exhaust. No annoying sound for me. And my fuel economy has improved!

We have been doing L99 to LS3 conversions with great results. If you want to put a decent cam in, it's the only option. It put down 410 to the wheels. PM me if you are interested.
It's not possible to tune the lockup function of the torque converter yet, so if you cam it you either have to put up with some surge, or put in a stall converter and forego the lockup function. HPTuner is supposed to be working on it. If it's just the noise bothering you, you can tune it out. |

I only have 800 miles on my Camaro, but I have never noticed any kind of noise. Maybe my hearing isn't what it's supposed to be.

The stock exhaust is very good at hiding the AFM sound. It has the added feature of making the car very quiet. The AFM often gets annoying when people get an after market exhaust.

I know a number of people who share your opinion on the AFM. It should have been an option on the engine and not standard. but since it is on the car, it should come on at higher speeds. it comes on too early when you do not want or expect it to.

Thanks for all of the comments..........topgun1, you got that right. Mine kicks in and out if I'm going 30 mph or 60 mph....it sounds pretty good when I keep my foot in the gas, but as soon as you reach a cruising speed or start going up a hill it kicks it in.
The factory exhaust is so quiet, it is no comparison to the Mustang GT. The Corvette is also too quiet. I put Dynatech headers and B&B exhaust on the Corvette and that solved the sound issue. I wasn't about to invest in headers if the AFM was still going to kick in and out on the Camaro. As far as a loss, I am taking one. The big loss is that my current car has a sunroof with the automatic. That's about $2,700 worth of options my new one will not have. The new one will have every option other than those two items. It's always said that if you drive a car off of the lot, it becomes a used car. I had people tell me they would guess $7-8,000 difference.....I'm going around $2,000 cash + my loss of the two options. I have talked to Chevy about my disappointment with the car and that I was never made aware that the L99 had the AFM. All I knew was the L99 was about 26 hp less than the LS3. I will be discussing my thoughts about the AFM...they would not authorize having the AFM turned off. Obviously, all I know is that if I had wanted a "Hybrid", I would have bought a Prius...........a muscle car should be just that...V8 with all 8 cylinders working! |
