Crossing my fingers for a small block screamer.
Thank god you are not important enough for Chevy to fulfill your wishes. I can't wait for a 575hp Z28!

I hear what you're saying, but I also hear what BLUESMOKE69 is saying. The Z/28 *should* have been a lightweight NA screamer, just like the original.

What the Z apparently is going to be, isn't really a Z/28 at heart. It should have been a ZL1 or something similar. Who knows, maybe Chevy will surprise us all and pull a secret model out to compete with the Boss.

I'll wait for the 6th gen/when they decide to downsize.
Don't tell that to those guys running with and by Corvettes...

I bet if we get rid of that state-of-the-art IRS, safety equipment, and all that other stuff that makes CAMARO as good as it is; that'll shed all that rediculous weight and make it the Z28 we should have

I think you took what I said the wrong way. My point was, adding a supercharger to an already heavy car is the wrong direction to go if you're building a car in the spirit of the original. I'm not saying it's a bad car, but it's not what a Z/28 should be. IMO.

I don't think I'm alone in this opinion.

History has decreed that the Z28 is CAMARO....that's about it. It's taken the form of a handling package/trim...the "mid-level" trim, and the All-out "Top Dog" at various points in time. So...I guess the real question is...what does the current Camaro team think the Z28 should be?

I am not positive but I don't think GM has the rights to the IROC name anymore.

I don't think I'm alone in this opinion.
I understood what you posted While I do agree that the car is only getting heavier, it seems (IMVHO) that most people that share your opinion believe there's been absolutely no benefit, in most any way, to the added weight. For example, the car's way safer; the car's IRS is superior in many more applications; this car can be driven anywhere - anytime; etc. No - not all of it is performance related, but that's not the market anymore. Look at all the amenities the competition has now. We can't get away with roll-up windows, no A/C, no smog, blah, blah, blah anymore, like we used to. Would I buy a stripped down Z28? No - I think I'm in the majority; do I want performance that at least equals the GT500, and even get on what the BOSS is starting to look like? HELL YES!!! I don't know that adding weight is the best way to go, but with the builds members have been performing here, I think it's certainly possible to attain that level of performance, even with the weight penalties we're seeing. I'm as big a Z28 person as about anyone here (though I'm always willing to learn some more history or get a refresher ), but I just think (MVHO) it's time for a change. I don't think GM's going to make more than the three major CAMARO models that they're going to be releasing over the next couple years; we aren't going to see models like the Mustink's BOSS (or even MATCH 1 if it ever comes), so I believe GM's going to put the Ford's Top Dog Mustang, GT500, square in it's sights for Z28. I think it's too early to water-down CAMARO line-up yet (don't get me wrong, I don't consider the BOSS watered-down at all); it needs to be developed, like the Mustang has.

JMVHOs. I'm arguing a car that doesn't even exist, LOL It's all in good fun though

I predict the automatic Z/28 will beat the GT500 on the straights but no version will beat the GT500 on the track at VIR or Nurburgring. The 2011 GT500 through some fey magic managed to beat the Porsche GT3 and V10 Audi R8 lap time on the VIR track and I think it's stretching probability quite a bit to expect the very first iteration of the Gen5 Z/28 to achieve that because it took Ford 5 iterations of the Shelby GT500 to do it.

To engineer the kind of amazing handling to be able to beat a Porsche GT3 and Audi R8 on a track, you need time; time to constantly and iteratively improve the dynamics of the car. Straight-line performance? Just slap in a bigger engine and you're done.

It's not all that magical. And if they're testing against the car...don't think for a second they aren't planning to surpass it in every way.

These people don't know what "settle" means...especially not when it comes to the final say in Camaro-dom.

Yup. And keep in mind, its not as if GM doesn't have experience beating those cars. They just haven't done it with a Camaro yet. All the principals are the same, and we know they have the hardware to do it.
