I just finished a forged 6.0L build. LQ4 which is essentially an iron block LS2. Compstar rods, Wiesco pistons with blower specific rings, and stock crank. Not much need to spend more unless you're aiming north of 800+ rwhp. This motor went in my daily driver maggie blown GMC. It occasionally goes to the strip and also actually works for a living.

Be prepared for a very loud exhaust. Long tube headers feeding 3" duals dumping into just about any aftermarket muffler set = loud. If you have cats, it might be toned down a bit. Without cats, it will get old quick. Unless you like an exhaust that never shuts up
I do have cats so hopefully it won't be too bad. I have considered adding an additional resonator if I can't stand it.

Can you be more specific on the parts list needed for the build you recommend? Can you give me a link to a website that sells these parts? I have tried several sponsor websites and I haven't had much luck.

I added resonators on my truck with Magnaflow mufflers. That and an "X" pipe did help a little. What struck me as odd was the fact that a loud set of mufflers wasn't necessarily a free flowing set of muffs. I went as far as measuring back pressure. Two chamber Flowmasters were obnoxiously loud and had 4psi of back pressure. Magnaflows were actually a little quieter and had much less back pressure. You can see straight through the M'flows. I don't know what Corsa offers for Camaros, but they are my choice for a high performce muffler with good sound control.

Corsa offers a VERY NICE system but make sure you're sitting down when you get the price. lol. IIRC its like $1700 for the cat back system. I'm a fan of the Magna-Flow stuff personally, nice sound and as mentioned, minimal back pressure.

I've been watching this thread closely and reading up on all the news (email notification daily ).

Regarding the exhaust, it's all up to personal preference in sound. I saw you wanted to go 3" and are concerned about the noise level. If I may...

I have Stainless Works long tubes with 2" primaries (perfect for a supercharged set up), x-pipe, high flow cats, 3" pipes all the way out the back to 2 1/2" S-Turbo Mufflers. They WERE 3".....but, the noise was stupid loud...like, let everyone in a 1mile radius know you are coming loud.

I had to take those 3" mufflers off and so something. I tried two other sets of mufflers. Chambered mufflers were quiet during normal driving, but kind loudER during hard accelleration. They were ok, but it made me feel like the true exhaust wasn't getting what it was "worth" in attention, ya know? So, I tried the 2 1/2" and it was what I settled on. I LOVE my exhaust set up and can't say enough about it. Yes...it's still loud....exactly 116.9 decibles loud at 50ft at redline. Yeah...it can be heard for a while....but, it's NOT a 3" LOUDER system.

I hope that might help in some exhuast choosing. Whatever you go with, remember...if it ain't right, it can always be fixed.

Hope that helps.

Great build and awesome power.

I was leaning towards a Maggie and I was discussing my options with my brother yesterday. I'm glad I saw this thread

I know which way I'm going now and my brother just so happens to be a Whipple dealer

Thanks for the Info and again Great Build

Craig

I saw that a few cai's were tested in this thread on the Whipple. Has anybody installed a Whipple with the CAI Inc. yet??

Thanks Tag, now I have to find a decimeter to measure how loud my system is. I thought it was over the 94 db limit @ midpoint to redline that my sorry azz state has us follow, but wasn't expecting it to be that far over. I'm pretty sure they measure @ 1 meter too.

USMC,

How's the sound difference with the 3" set up? If it's anything like Tag described, I hope you have an upgraded sound system (way upgraded from the BA system)
