How come four or so of the LEDs are out on the far right light?

They do have a new look, looks like the lower ring of LEDs is much smaller. Still look great I must say. I guessing they still do all the same stuff, rapid fire when you apply the brakes and I love the way they look when using a turn signal.

looks like he took a picture while it was sweeping (directional).

as far as the resistors they are different they look to be encapsulated. here is another thread on the 6800, with more pictures

Darn it. The 6800 series all but eliminates the cool afterburner ring that the old 6700 series used to have. I'm kind of torn. This only serves to extent the form vs. frustration argument going on in my head. The 6700 looks cool but is ridden with issues. I guess I'll just suck it up and keep mine, but if I ever need a replacement, I'm official S.o.L since they're out of production now.

Also: Yeah, the resistor packs are totally different. They used to have 2 resistors wired in series and bundled in one housing with two separate plugs which you'd need to run to each pair of tail lamps on either side (passenger and driver.) At least this new setup makes it easier to figure out if a specific resistor is bad and swap it.

Is there a comparison. I had one of the original sets and can't remember how the afterburner ring looked

The original series had twice as many LED's for the afterburner. The new one looks kind a lame.

I think I agree with you. They seem too far spaced apart.

Yes mine have twice as many LEDs, and they seem much brighter in the afterburner than in the rest of the light on mine as well. I would not purchase the new one unless I was going to modify the afterburner

so does this mean that if down the line, one assembly lens must be replaced for whatever reason(s), one will no choice but to replace all four?? I wonder..

Yes, a side to side comparison is in order here.

No thanks… the afterburner ring isn't really a ring anymore. "Low profile" = nearly non existent. As a consequence, the LED array loses a lot of its shape and looks kinda random.

I have a feeling that this wasn't a design change for style purposes but to address load issues with the circuit previously. One change in that 6800 series is that all LEDs (center array + afterburner) use the car's stock lighting harness for power. Before, only the afterburner ring was powered by the lighting harnesses and the center LED array was powered by a separate lead connected to your car's positive battery post. Maybe the new design doesn't support as many LEDs as before for whatever reason, but at the benefit of avoiding the parasitic battery drain that the 6700 was plagued from? Who knows.

Should be interesting to see how we're going to get replacement bulbs now, since the new 6800 series not only looks different but is 100% incompatible. Wonder how that works exactly for people who still have a warranty. All I can say is all my emails for the last 3 months asking to have my passenger side right bulb swapped have been ignored. I'm going to call them soon.

Wow I wonder what their reason is for the lower count of LEDs on the afterburners. Maybe they eliminated some of them to kep the lights running smoother, maybe the more LEDs the greater the load was on the resistors thus creating problems. I really wish they were those strip LEDs. Here's to hoping there is a 6800a version.

Not liking the new model in the pics..

I certainly hope the brake lights on the new model aren't any brighter than before!

One thing I have noticed on more than one occasion, are people in my rear view mirror, while at a stop light, squinting with hand over eyes sometimes, due to my brake lights. I wasn't sure whether to feel bad, or just say F off losers, lol.

I have the older model.

If it was "6800a", that would denote a minor revision, not a visible design change like the 6800 had from the 6700. Personally, I'd prefer a CCFL to create a seamless edge on the afterburner, like what Oracle offers in one model of their taillamp modification kit.
