I wish there was less comment in the press on the "revived " aspect of a 60's muscle car and more comment that this new model actually matches up well with the current 09 Honda Accord coupe, a car that no one criticizes as a out of date concept.

Now that those initial buyers have all reserved their Camaros, the model mix may be getting closer to what The General had expected in the first place.
Thanks. First I've seen that the V8/V6 orders are starting to even out....good news!

My dealer only had 3 allocations, and I just find it hard to believe that I would be waiting until July or later to get my car. Until someone like Scott, John or the like, come on here and confirm that theory....I just refuse to be negative and believe that to be the case

So here's to hoping for April-May

Angela, my point was simply that GM can't make 10,000 Camaros in the first month. And I would hate to see threads start to turn ugly complaining that people aren't getting their cars in March-April and blaming GM for a bad rollout. I certainly hope that everyone gets their car as soon as possible, but people just need to be realistic with their expectations. That's all.

No offense taken at all, and if it does take until July to get my car I would live thru it I personally wouldn't go nuts on GM if the worse did happen...I like everyone here am hoping for the best turnout....but right now I am just very happy to have my order placed

BTW, my wife told me earlier that she thought I might be a little obsessed because I was running to the mailbox to look for that second letter. I can only imagine how bad things are going to get when people start getting their cars. UGH!

That order represents about 300 million dollars in gross sales. Not bad for a start.

I would agree that most pre-order people should realize their cars won't all be delivered in March.

More realistically, they will start to be delivered in March, and probably continue into July.
The order of which, I believe will have less to do with order date, and more to do with factory parts selection and color run sequences and other variables at the factory.

Also, It's probably in the cards at G.M. Marketing div. to somewhat spread out the delivery of new Camaros geographically, so this will no doubt be another factor.

Trying to calculate when YOUR car will be delivered is kinda' like finding a needle in a haystack. You could guess, and you might be right, but there is absolutely no way to know until the the orders hit production floor.

You need to figure that if there annual goal is 100,000 and the worst happened, they'd still probably make over half of that goal (if it went poorly), it would still only take 2 months to get the current amount of preorders out in 2 months. 50k/9 remaining months in 2009 = 5555 camaros a month.

There is a guy at my dealer that is not a salesman but an IT guy. He does all of the dealers pre-ordering. He insists that the V6 models are going to be build first with the exception of the first few charity auctioned vehicles (I would love to prove him wrong since mine is a 1SS).

He hays that we are all in the "1100" status - meaning that the order was sold and is waiting to be put into a production sequence.

here is a few other things he said:

1) I can call him anytime and check my status #.
2) Whenever the status # goes above 1100 I cannot make anymore changes to my order.
3) Something like a "1500" status meant that the car had been assigned a production start date.
4) "3000" meant that the assembly had been started
5) "3800" meant that the car was finished and waiting to be shipped from Canada.
6) Once the car arrived at the dealer it would be a few days before it was ready for me to take it due to unwrapping , washing, fluid checks and ... ...test driving it.

Don’t quote me on the actual status #'s, they are from memory and I think he was guessing at the #'s anyway.

Here's all the status #s and explanations

It really shouldn't take them that long to prepare the car. It's your car, you can tell them not to take off the wrapping, wash it or anything if you want. I think they do have to test it to make sure it's good to go before giving it over but that doesn't mean you can't be there when they do that.

It's your car, don't ever forget that. If they don't want to listen, you can go elsewhere.
