Meh, I wouldn't be worried about any non-LS1 stock Camaros if I were you. The V6 looks like it will be right on par with the LT1 early fourths, below the LS1, and better than everything else (and most mustangs, except the cobras and the two most recent GTs).

Original manufacturer's estimates put the 1/4 at 14.2 - but they want to quicken the 0-60 by .2 seconds, which should knock at least .2 off the 1/4.

So we're looking at 14 seconds manufacturer's estimate, which means you really good drivers will be able to get if a fair bit lower than that. That's on par with or a bit better than a stock LT1 from what I've seen.

Do you know the estimates for the L99 in the 1/4 mile?

I cant see how anybody can diss people who are getting the V6.

For some, people cant afford the v8. People dissing because certain people cant afford the V8? Ignoratant and rude.

Some want the better gas miliage. People dissing because certain people like to save money on gas? Retarded.

Im assuming the only dissing you have heard are from Dodge or Ford fans. I dont think anybody on this forum would bash another future Camaro owner for any reason.

If you don't mind buying a base model the LS is $8,000 less than a 1SS... think of what you can do for 8K
Can you say Sleeper???

this ones an auto...

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/te...-z-0-60-a.html

I did a quick search and I found a modded one that does 0-60 in 5.5.

I got a 1987 Camaro IROC-Z with a new 5.7 liter 350 and new tranny. Here are the mods I got into it.

700R4 Trans. 2200 STALL/Performance shift kit
7GAGE PRFM wires
Platinum + 4 high PRFM spark plugs
New Altinator
High PRFM 3 1/2 cat- PRO-FLO
Exhaust pipe 3 1/2 to muffler Pre-Fit
Flo-Pro High performance exhaust
Fuel Filter
PRFM air filters
PCV Valave and hose
Performance should be about the same. When I test drive the V6 I expect the experience to be at least equal to my old camaro. If it isn't then I'm gonna have to figure something out. But they should be very similar in terms of power, 0-60, and 1/4 mile times... If not faster.

I've owned Camaros and Mustangs and that 89 IROC-Z was the fastest of them all. It had a lot of torque (345lb/ft@3200RPM) to go along with the 245HP. Pretty good for 1989. Motor Trend had it listed 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, 14.4 second in the 1/4 mile. I will miss the torque.

There's people with their heads up their axxes dissing something all the time.

I'm a classic V8 guy, and will only buy the SS.

However, the V6 in the Camaro is further proof that GM is now serious about making world-class vehicles.

The old GM would have put the cheaper V6 in the Camaro.

Instead they chose a state of the art V6 with direct injection.

MOTORTREND Excerpts:

Quote:
Even GM loyalists must be pinching themselves. After so many years of second- or third-rate powerplants appearing in brand-new GM vehicles, seeing this superstar engine make its debut at launch time speaks volumes about the winning mindset of the New General.

Quote:
Buckle up, because the new Camaro runs like a cheetah escaping the zoo. The engine twirls for the 7000-rpm redline as if were born to live there, but at cruise it withdraws, like a fine personal valet, almost into invisibility.

The only reason it's even being made is to make more money.

A true enthusiast would purchase the V8.

Then get out of the V6 forum. That's not a recommendation; that's a moderator 'request'.

No true enthusiast would make such an asinine comment like the one above. For your future edification; I suggest you get over yourself.

Sorry for the confusion, my 86' IROCZ had a 305 in it. No where near the torque your pulling. Plus it was and auto.:( But after some choice mods, I began to move down the track with haste

PS: Thanks Dragon!

Thanks. That's a great article. I forgot about it, and can't wait for the SS review, but if you need reminding of how this car really drives, it's a great read or re-read.

V6 or V8

I think they are both great choices but for me I picked the V8 because I did some extensive research and read all about the LS3 engine. The Camaro is going to be great no matter which engine you choose. Like everyone else has said lots of V8's are going to be surprised when the V6 Camaro wins!

Clearly, there's nothing wrong with the V6 in the least. Anybody saying otherwise is living under a rock, or has been spoiled by overpowered cars all their life...
fwiw, in the end; my plans for a V6 (should I get it) could EASILY lay waste to anything on the roads less than a C6 Z06..........how can anyone call that potential 'bad'?
