I know, I know... Would I by buying a thunder-wielding, Ground-pounding V8 car if I didn't want to pass 5 cars in 3 seconds? Um, No.

I just can't make up my mind whether I want to do that in a Manual or the Auto/Paddle shift....Ah, but that's for another thread

Dragon, once you learn how to drive that manual in a musclecar, there is no going back. Seriously...I've had and driven both. There's nothing like rowing through the gears. It's easy to drive and makes driving more fun.

The only dislike....it sux in heavy traffic. I drove in about and 1 1/2 hours of bumper to bumper traffic in Austin w/ nothing but stop and go. THAT SUCKS. And that is the ONLY reason I wouldn't buy a 6spd.

mmmmm (groans) I was supposed to put this in another thread...Aw well, here goes . If you were to keep it in second in heavy traffic, and just feather your way forward...that's not soo bad, then, is it?

And do sticks (modern ones) actually make one leg bigger than the other? (I can see the flames coming at me form a mile away for that one)

Not really. Depends on the clutch. My stepdad's 2001 C4 cab's clutch is like the viper, It doesn't disengage until it's about 90% pushed in. The spring on that pedal is massive. Hard shifting for a winding mountain pass for 30 minutes will probably tire your leg out. Good thing they have a restaraunt at 35/84 intersection with a grand view, gas station and 4 ways to drive mountain roads.

2nd in heavy traffic isn't all that bad. But, there are hills in Austin and some of the stop and go's are on inclines. It's just a pain in the ass.

and....no.

6-spd's can be fun... But stop and go is not. I am sticking with my automatic!! Less room for error when I go to Beech Bend and see what my times are!!

I imagine they would use a hydraulic clutch system and eliminate some of the effort. Isn't the Corvette equipped with a hydraulic system? I'm gettin the auto anyway.

For sports cars, and even most regular cars, I would definitely get a manual. For my Jeep, I went with the old fashioned, bulletproof auto. Offroad, and this is debatable, the auto makes more sense from a number of issues ranging from risk of breakage, cost, and ease of use. But that's off topic

I hope that they make a mid-engined corvette. I think it would be a nice evolution for the vette. I've seen some photoshops on the internet with a mid-engined type corvette and I thought it looked nasty. Also found this, don't know how many of you go to this website. But its definitely interesting.

I think a mid engined Corvette would be like making a Hummer subcompact car that has a perfume holder and spits flowers out of its exhaust.

Vector M12 anyone? It's not a vette and never will be.

That link went to an article about a Mid engine "low-volume" Counterpart to the Vette. Not a Vette. In any event, GM has it's feet wet over in Europe, if they want to make a Mid-engine Vette-like-vehicle then let'em do it over there. The Corvette is an American Sports Car. Mid-engine, to me, equates European Sports cars.
