Car shaking when braking at high speeds?
Thx for your response SpeedyG,
I'm going to reply to a few good points/questions you mentioned: 1. I have noticed today that the vibration does occur at slower speeds, but it's more like a slight wiggle as I approach a stop. (Although braking at higher speeds its more noticeable) 2. A 4 wheel alignment was recently performed, but I noticed its now pulling to the right slightly. 3. I tried the emergency brake & still felt vibration. So according to your thoughts its sounds like either right (impact side) rotor(s), and maybe bearings (like what slingshot needed)? Lastly you suggested if rotors are fine, then culprit could be rear axle geometry.. I'm not mechanically savy, so dumb question alert: how would they go about fixing rear axle geo? Another alinement? Or (my biggest worry) part replacement? Lol Thx I wanna approach the stealership sounding like I've done my research & sorta kno what I'm talking about. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sounds to me like the incident caused more damage than originally thought. If the tire and wheel warranty covered the entire repair, than chances are that's all they fixed.
It is very possible that everything looked okay at initial inspection, but as rotations went on, something is coming to the surface. Suspensions are a finely tuned balancing act, and it doesn't take much to cause what you're experiencing. Personally, I would take it back to the shop that did the wheel/tire/alignment and have them look at it again. They, as well as you, should have records of the initial repair, and should suffice to file a claim with your insurance company for any repair not covered under w/t warranty. |

MrChris,
Good point on showing paperwork to INS, but I'm hoping it's a cheap fix like rotors, etc. which might get covered for free by dealership (small chance). Otherwise if cost to fix is under $500 (Ins deductible), then I'll just have to eat it. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Update:
Brought it in today! (They first suggested new front tires, until I reminded them I just got one replaced lol) They said the alignment was fine. Lastly, to stop the rattle they said I need 2 new front rotors & new pads... But it's considered "wear & tear", so "Manufacturer Warranty" won't cover it. So $130 for each rotor & $250 for both pads = $500+ I guess the days of $40 rotors are over for me now that I own a "muscle car" lol Anyhow I then brought up how my previous new car I drove (hard for 3 years 60k miles), never needed new rotors/pads (2011 Kia Optima Turbo), & I told him to talk to his manager about my concern with camaro only having 15k miles... He came back & said they will cover parts & labor for the rotors & the labor for pads, (as a 1 time courtesy), I'll just need to pay for the parts for pads.. So $250+tax is what I'm going to spend. Generally good idea to change pads along with when replacing warped rotors? That was their suggestion. Vs just replacing rotors What are your guys thoughts on this? I feel ok with them picking up half the bill. But love hearing other people's views (hence the whole point of forums) lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'd be screaming out loud at any suggestion that it is "wear and tear" and my warranty does not cover this at 15K miles.

I actually had similar brake problems on my 1993 Ford Probe. After a few visits to the dealer where the problem was not resolved I told them that next time I'd send my wife in with the car and they will wish they had resolved the problem with me.
They fixed it that time. |

Car shaking when braking at high speeds?
@tomlink Lol ya the wife card, nice!
Technically this issue started shortly after I spun out control (3 full 360 degree turns )& crashed into a curb, blowing passenger side tires & 2 broken rims...(& my pride)The wheels & tires were replaced (wheel-warranty covered them), but no other issues were discovered at that time, during the following 2 months is when the shaking while braking began to surface. The last Camaro I had I used to wash it on the way home on a daily basis because where I parked was so dusty and at 45,000 miles the brakes looked and felt brand new. I swear the V6 has the best lasting brakes I ever seen on any vehicle! Plus no brake dust even during a time I went two weeks without washing it!

No, the V6 brakes are very good brakes! Best lasting brakes with the least amount of maintenance of any vehicle I ever owned! I even like them better than the Brembos on the SS!

Common sence says to not spray water directly or otherwise to the rotors when washing the car , if you have used the breaks somewhat intensively
If the rotors are hot , and you hit it with cold water they most luckily will warp , it can even happen if you drive into standing water while the rotors are hot |

Okay that said, do you think it mught be entirely possible that if you were moving fast enough to spin a 3,900 lb car 3 times, that all that velocity and mass hitting a curb, just might damage a little more stuff than the wheels and tires? I'd say it's time to call your insurance agent, pony up the deductible and have what really needs to be looked at looked at. Not trying to be jerk here, but there is just no way you hit a curb that hard and didn't do more damage to the suspension, just no way. Sorry, has to be said. |
