Says who? I've been daily driving Corvettes since the introduction of the C5 back in 1997. And I have a wrecked lower back with 6 screws and 2 rods. The C5 was a massive improvement over the C4 comfort wise, and the C6 took it to an even higher level.

Actually, Grand Sport=denutted Z06. All the handling without the worry of the azz getting away from you coming out of a turn.

Right now you can get a Corvette GS Coupe with Chrome wheels and optional exhaust for less than $49,900. This is an $11,000 discount! A new ZL1 Camaro will be MSRP or above. The performance of the two cars will be close with the Vette weighing 700 lbs. lighter. So ..you could buy a $61,000 GS Vette for less than a $50,000 ZL1 Camaro.

What they cost list and what you can get them for are two (usually) totally different beasts. I have seen brand new 2011's, that list for that or more going for 55-57k.

The GS is an interesting car. Having been to the Spring Mountain racing school, the GS is really surprising. It's about as nimble as the Z06 but feels like you can go faster because it's easier to control the power. They're no slouch... but having driven the Z06, ZR1, and GS... it's nothing to laugh at.

If it were my $$$, it'd be the ZL1... but only because I have grown up with Camaros. My parents (who I don't live with, just for comparison) have both a '10 2SS and a '10 ZR1... and although I LOVE the power of the ZR1 I'd much prefer the SS for cruising, etc as the Vette feels like a T-rex on a frayed rope leash. The Camaro is much easier to cruise in, to have fun with, and to feel relaxed in. I'd like both, please! But if I had to choose JUST one or the other between GS and Camaro, I'd take the Camaro even if it is slightly less nimble.

The only reason to choose the zl1 would be because you prefer how it looks. from purely a performance pov the Corvette all the way. its a lot easier to add horsepower than lose weight.

Also the removable hard tops are incredibly sexy. Chevy should put them on every car.

Only way I buy a new corvette is to have a Callaway. I have owned lots of Corvettes thru the years and currently have 2. BTW.. the Grand Sport was the grand daddy of racing. GM brought it back in 96' as the end of the C-4's with 1000 units being made. 190 convertibles and 810 coupes. I have a superb very low mile 96 GS coupe with the Z-51 suspension package and original tires . It is in my eyes better looking than any new GS that is mass produced. Buy the ZL-1.

I still find no rational for a GS over ZL1. There are a lot of great points, but I refuse until I have ZL1. I don't know if that's commitment or lunacy...

However, what I keep thinking about is: What if ZL1 performs better than GS?... I believe the GS comes with the last generation F1s, and ZL1 is getting nearly the same size G2s, and it has MR and other chassis enhancements (like the aero' package), so what if it at leat matches the GS' performance?

Being one of those guys who is continually modifying the car (or saving up to do so), I'd have to lean toward the GS. The ZL1 will be a great ride, but I can see unleashing a lot more yee-haw modifying the GS vs the ZL1.

Plus you can't get the ZL1 in a vert...yet...

Pedders and Pfadt, among many other Sponsors, have gotten great yee-haw out of their rides

Keep in mind we build Corvette parts as well... We've also squeezed EXTREME Yee-haw out of our Corvettes.

Both will be great cars, the only way you could really make a good selection is driving them back to back. Personally I would rather go Corvette, but I can see the appeal of a limited edition Camaro as well.
