Then what's the point of an oil cap breather if the clean side is already breathing through the air intake? Where do you plug the clean side on the v6 stock air intake? Just bought the can and breather. Seems like the breather is redundant now and I'll keep the stock cap on there until I figure this out. The breather does look cool though. Thanks

I think rtcatman just used a bolt to plug the tube. ![]() ![]()

You use the breather to cut out a source from oil getting in the engine via the clean side pcv line under WOT. To properly do this, you must plug both sides to not allow air flow through this tube and into the intake. The oil cap breather more or less replaces the clean side pcv line. The breather allows fresh air to enter the engine without the possiblity of dirty air backflowing and getting into the intake (like the factory set up does). Not plugging the pcv line and running the oil cap breather is also bad as it allows to much free-flowing unmetered air, giving your sensors bad readings, and messing up your fuel trims.

wow, I'm glad someone asked about this. thanks for the info. Come inspection day I should replace the stock plug and reconnect the original pcv line to the air intake. Does this sound right? Should be easy to plug the clean side when I get the injen cai? So many question sorry. need to make sure i don't screw up my car. Thank you all for the help!!

I want to say thank you too for the information and pictures. I can't believe I never read a single thing about this from all my research on the catch can. Again, much appreciated guys!

Again, I think rtcatman used a tapered plug here that works just as well. ![]()

Aye GTO, very timely for me. Thank you!!!
Today I install my catch can and breather. Cap the clean air, with said plug. Save money for next mod, under drive pully and the RX Throttle piece. |

Nooooooo, I kid. I found it easier to jack the car and take the wheel off. More room to work for me. I think some may have just turned the wheel in and did the swap. Follow the instructions, take your time and you'll be fine. I remember taking the factory tape off to extend the washer pump wiring was a pain. It only needs to be extended a couple inches for the Injen washer.

I was told that I didn't have to have the tube capped off for my intake...I left my hose connected to my intake. Am I wrong or right in doing that?

Depends on the intake used.....the several differnt ones use differnt size tubes/line, etc. and in logging fuel trims were stable but the basic answer is yes, if possible, but it will run correctly w/out it capped on most. It WILL still leave a path for some clean side oil ingestion though if not capped. We state it is not neccessay since so many were confused when we tried to give directions, but these guys have done a FAR better job than I in explaining it and providing pictures as well as where and what to get to cap it. We will add this to the instructions in the future though.

I went to lowes tonight, found some very good fitting 1/4" Gray plastic plugs in the isle with the long pvc pipe, area of a bunch of gray 1/4,3/4,1", etc fittings of all type 2 x .57 = $1.14.
I removed the long pipe (with the oil catch can for lack of a better description), may as well remove it, so it's not in the way flopping around. Inserted plug into rubber tube coming off the intake on drivers side. Inserted other plug into rubber tube on drivers side near the firewall on top of valve cover. I zip tied it in place, to prevent it from rattling off now that they aren't connected to anything. No cutting necessary and i can revert back to stock at any time. There was definately oil in the tube, not much but it was there. Pic 1 : part no. for plugs. 2 of them. Pic 2 : Remove unnecessary stock tube and can. Pic 3 : Stock tube capped off at the stock intake. Pic 4 : Stock tube near firewall capped off, drivers side, under the cheap gray back engine cover. Thanks for the clarification SC2150, nice to know this is not a big deal, but i wanted to finish it just the same. |
