She is a "motorhead" through and through, and maybe the "exception to the rule". She's on her 4th Mustang, a 35th Anniversary GT, and she is DRIVING ME NUTS bugging me to contact SLP for her so that she can get more HP out of her car. (I told her to sell it and get a Camaro if she wants to feel what real power is. ) J/K Mustang loyalists! So, all that being said, I'm betting the new Camaro will appeal to women, those looking for a cool "cruiser" (V6) as well as those who have a heavy right foot. Man, or woman...who can resist the looks of the new Camaro?! |

The problem (from a financial point of view) is that the Camaro just looks more macho (and always has) and as a result has not sold _as_ well overall. The Camaro demographic is something like 90/10 (men/women) and really always has been. Do I think women will buy the Camaro? Definitely. Especially the 'Vert!!! Do I think _I'll_ see a woman driving a Camaro? I think I am more likely to see 8 supermodels naked my living room playing twister! Finally, I have talked to a LOT of women who are passionate about cars, and by FAR and away, most of them want 'handling cars' like Miata's and MINI's and the like... not that that is good or bad. It's just what _I_ have run into. I couldn't even venture a guess as to why... The Camaro is not historically known to be this sort of car. It's a large sports car, and that tends to attract men far more often than women. My point is, I think Chevy has to be careful to keep women interested in this car (and I think they are with the convertable coming out right away). And I doubt ANY of those women will buy a 500hp Z28 when a 'Vert is available for similar/less money. ~LSx

One thing that you are leaving out is that although the camaro itself has not sold as well as the mustang, there are also firebird sales. Personally, I count twins (or triplets or what ever) from GM as the same vehicle. Camaro/Firebird, Silverado/Sierra, Cavalier/Sunfire, etc. Taking that into consideration, the combined sales of the pony cars from GM have done very well against ford. Often beating them, i think.

me, too. They were both competing against the Mustang...as for numbers - they didn't beat the Mustang in the last few years of production (I think), but if on average, then I'd tend to agree with you.

In response to the bit about women buying a Camaro--I plan on buying one if I can. I want one. I've wanted a Camaro since I was old enough to drive. Haven't ever owned one, but that's just how things turned out.
My sister has a Mustang. Before she got it, I considered it as a choice. But after riding in it as often as I have, it just turns me off. Plus it's a Ford. Enough said. |

What makes me love the Camaro? History, reputation and patriotism. I could go out and buy a German performance car, but why? When an import pulls up next to me I always wonder if they think that a spoiler, body kit and stickers make it go faster. While I can respect the work they put into them I don't see the value and I get a chuckle when I beat them in my CTS. Will I be challenged in the Camaro sure, will I lose (never to a honda!), but yes. Will I smile when I'm sitting next to a Mustang or Challenger at a red light. YES! And even though I might lose, I'll be part of a long and proud history, Chevy vs. Ford vs. Dodge. That is something the imports will never have. That is why I love the Camaro and respect the rest.

What is it that makes me crazy about the Camaro?
The damn wait for it to go into production, hit the dealer's lot, get sold to me, and to get driven by me.
