The Shelby will be a good race. The Grand Sport still has the edge to me. It'll depend on the suspension and tires. Bonnies LS2 Vette will keep me for the first bit because I just can't grip. The Vette just plants and goes.

It'll be fun to try though.

Yep, most likely because the Corvettes have the transmission toward the rear giving them an edge on traction assuming same tire.

Car & Driver tested the CTS-V in the 1/4 mile, a car very similar to the ZL1, and achieved this:
12.6@116 MPH

Here's what a 2005 LS2 Corvette did (the 05 LS2s were a little weaker than the 06-07):
12.6@114 MPH

Here's what a 2008 LS3 Corvette did:
12.4@116 MPH

Here's what a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport did:
12.5@116 MPH

They also tested the Camaro SS in the 1/4, and they got this:
13.0@111 MPH

And for humor, here's Motor Trend in a 2002 Camaro SS:
13.5@107 MPH

Im gonna love that car but as some of you have mentioned it is still a fat pig no doubt. But I am thinking that the improved traction and handling it will make it all worth while.... Wouldn't it be crazy if the ZL1 rolled out with a 11.9 ?

I bet magazine testing will be 12.2 to 12.4. Real-world in the hands of guys who make tons of passes will always be better... as evidenced above, Car & Driver got 12.4 for an LS3 Vette, but the quickest stock LS3 Vettes on the Corvette forum are doing high-11s.

So it's feasible for a dragstrip specialist to get a new ZL1 below 12.0. We'll have to wait and see...

Not at all for a good driver and some 18 inch DRs. One advantage we have over the Vettes is that we gain a helluva lot more with a set of rear wheels than they do. Still gonna lose to a Z06 but a set of DRs will take care of a GS or LS3 Vette.

The fastest Z06's are right there with the fastest ZR1's. With 133 more HP (even though its heavier) you would think the gap would be bigger between the two.

Two things.

Those times are on stock tires. There is a hooking problem for the ZR1 more so than the Z06.

Plus, once you get down under 11 seconds a small gap is bigger. (ie...... 10.9 to 10.7 is a much bigger gap than 12.9 to 12.7)

That said...it'll still be VERY close by most measuring sticks, and I think that's worth something...

Well I can see your excited about the ZL1, so are many of us! I don't believe it will beat a ZO6 Vette based on the facts we do have and the power to weight ratio. What I do know is that I won't be racing on the street with my ZL1 and neither should you. bring it to the track and wait for that ZO6 or GT500 to stage next to you. I've see to many people get messed or lose their lives street racing. IT"S NOT WORTH IT! and please think of the people your put in harms way if you do. I hope GM delivers and I think they will, and we will all enjoy our new rides soon.
