I have been doing the car shows with my Camaro 2SS for 2 years now. I do a local show show every Saturday night (no trophy's etc) and I have a great time. It's the people you hang with that make it fun. I also did two shows that you had to pay to get in, one I got a plaque the other nothing, and it was as you stated all the OLDER cars that won. IMO I have more fun with the complements from the spectators and the other drivers of newer and older cars, more than a trophy. Most of the people that have been doing these shows will tell you the trophy's end up meaning nothing. One person I know gave back all the tropphy's he won so the club could use them again. Enjoy the friends you make at the shows because that's where the fun is.

There's just no comparing owning my new SS and a true antique car.
On a side note I have gotten trophies for my Camaro but always in a 5th gen or modern muscle class.
Don't want to argue here- Just my opinion from someone who rides on both sides of the road.
That's exactly the same car I had in 1953.

Our Lehigh Valley Camaro Club has been going to this local car show, in Slatington,PA for 15 years. 5 Years ago I won a third place trophy. Well yesterday I hit the jackpot. I won the first place trophy in the "Modern Factory Muscle Car Class with my 2010 SS. There was a Dodge Magnum, 5 new Challengers, a Mustang Cobra, a 2010 Camaro SS Transformer Edition and my SS in the class. Challengers won second and third.

The trophy is a 21 lb piece of slate with a clock on it. See picture:

i've been showing all years of camaros and chevy trucks since 1995. there's all kinds of car shows, apparently the one you went to was a "good ol' boy" show. was there a charity or fund that the proceeds went to? that would make all the difference.a trophy is a trophy,i have hundreds. no big deal.it's the friendships you start and socializing it what makes it. a "proper" show would have done year breaks and it would have been ok.i've competed against a stock 2002 ss one year with NO tags and a dealer keyfob against my 1995 $40k modded z28 and lost. therefore you do not go back to that show if you really desire a trophy. a lot of times i will park and not register and i get to leave early i look at the situation and go from there. i do understand your rant, though

Sorry about your experience. I agree with your well stated points OP. Some showa are like that unfortunately. But happily, not all of them as the experience of Music City Camaro Club's recent wins at the Hogs & Hot Rides Show in Nashville attests. Let me know what show that was & we will make a point not to make it a club event in the future for either MCCC or Central KY Camaro Club.

I go to the car shows to check out other peoples cars/mods and talk to people about mine. I do not need a trophy to know I have a nice car, nor do I want one- I have enough stuff in the garage already (tools, stereo, beer fridge, air compressor, etc).

Same goes with my custom HD. I enjoy talking to people who want to know about my rides and I see what they did to theirs.

Cool '50 coupe you had. 1949 to'51 Olds first series Rocket 88. America's first true Muscle Car- Chevy body with modern 303 CI OHV Olds V/8 & 4 speed hydramatic tranny. It's always a toss up which one to take out. The Olds usually wins if it's a local cruise/show.
The younger guys will never know what they missed.

Looks like a sore loser to me. Like others have said, Who cares about winning a plastic trophy at a two bit car show with a $15 entry fee. I go to enjoy the cars ,meet people that love cars, and park up front without some ramrod caving my doors in.

My cars and bikes and I are well known around the area and have done some work for the Big bike club in NE Ohio. Sure Ive been to plenty of car/bike shows but Never as a lawnchair guy though as Id rather look, BS with friends then go drive/ride. All im saying is Id never expect to win a trophy for something you can see at your local dealer. As far as charities, I contribute to those of my choice.

There are a lot of posts here so this has probably already mentioned but:

What type of voting was it?
A show I was at this past Monday had similar results as you describe.

Reason: It was a popular vote, each entrant and viewer was able to vote for 10 vehicles. It's no surprise the largest car club present won all the trophies. They voted for each other.

Hard feelings? Not on my part. It was fun to hang out with my C5 buddies..... and I know inside (where it counts) that my car and a couple other C5s were much better than some of the "winners" (specifically that ugly ass pink cadillac with faded paint and dents).... ooops... I almost forgot I wasn't bitter...

Stick to shows that specifically have a "Modern Muscle" class that is judged by judges and not a popular vote.... then you stand a chance to win... if that is the reason you are at the show.

(I'm "in it to win it" but hey, some shows like the one on Monday is just one you have to relax and not worry about the win)

When I go to a show I look to see if all cars are welcome before I enter. I really don't care if I win I just like to meet and talk to the other car people and enjoy looking at a lot of classic and modern cars that I would not get to see otherwise.

I've only entered 3 car shows. Two of them, the car parked next to me was the big winner (and well deserved, too). The third, I didn't stand a chance - Ladybug was BY FAR the newest vehicle there, I think the next newest was a '71 Vette. But entry was donation based, and the money went to cancer research, so it was worth it. Plus, there was a BBQ, sunshine, and a lot of really nice people!

Some car shows are very biased towards a certain type of car or group......even though they advertise "all" cars. You could have the cleanest, most original, and lowest mileage 1970 Chevelle SS454 in the world (for example) and you won't win anything if the car crowd is mostly imports.
