Visibility, do you get used to it?

It doesn't take long to get used to it, just adjust your mirrors, besides you are really driving around in a beautiful concept car. How many peolpe can say that?...

Solid axle rear end better performer? I've owned Mustangs I love Mustangs, Mustangs don't handle like the new Camaros. Modded Mustang with Thunderbird IRS rearends might.

So I test drove a SS again today for quite a while, messed with the seating position, checked helmet clearance. I think I could live with it on the track. It's a fun car. It's really is a great mix of comfort and performance on the road in stock form but is entertaining enough to make you smile a lot. I don't know if it was just me but the 2012 seemed a little more taught and the steering seemed quicker than on the last 2011 I drove. I also dig the Hurst short throw shifter. That would be a must. I did noticed something funny happens when you drive a yellow Camaro around painted like Bumblebee from Transformers. Little boys jump up and down cheering while giving you the thumbs up as you drive by. I'll take black or grey please.

Ha, the dealer told me nothing changed for 2012 other than interior. I knew it felt tighter. Not bad for driving the 2011 once. I am a car Jedi. I'm going to need a bigger hat now.

What is your opinion on the visibility of the car in a track/autocross environment.

I currently drive a BMW Z4M Coupe which is kind of a claustrophobic car itself. It's a little like sitting in the ****pit of a fighter jet. I don't mind a tight cabin but in the M you can still see over the hood and it's pretty easy to tell where your wheels are. I test drove the Camaro and while I didn't feel it was as bad as some people would make it out to be I did think that it was really hard to tell where I was putting my front tire in an apex.

I am currently cross shopping the Mustang 5.0 and Camaro SS. The Challenger while fun, is off my list because it's just too huge. Off the floor the Mustang is a lot more track friendly but I come from a family of Camaro owners so I'm kinda' partial to the SS. I was the only one of my siblings who decided they wanted to turn corners and went the Euro route but now that these cars are starting to be able to hustle around the track I'm feeling like I could finally embrace my heritage, haha. I like the styling better and the IDR suspension of the Camaro and I know these cars can handle with a little tweaking but I am not sure I can get past the visibility issue.

Any opinions from someone who tosses their car around the track?
I went from a BMW 335i to a Camaro SS. At the time I picked up the 335i I almost pulled the trigger on a Z4 M coupe! Seemed like a fun car. I also cross shopped the muscle cars and came to the same conclusion about the Callenger.

I still think the 11+ Coyote Mustang is an awesome car. But I went with the Camaro because I got a great trade in price on a Trans Am WS6 I had on hand. And I wanted a sun roof. It was a good decision.

The Camaro can be made into a very competent track car. Here is my thread on that topic:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=162661

It is going to cost some $$, but the result is worth it. Besides my suspension mods I still want to get Hawk HP pads and a set of lightweight 18 inch wheels.

I suppose you have looked at the Boss. I know if I was buying now I would be very tempted. But my Camaro with the suspension mods and full boltons is very close to Boss track performance and it is a bit more luxurious. On top of all that the Camaro is a great long distance cruiser, even with all the mods.

You do get used to the visibility, but you will always wish it was better. Cones will be hard to spot. The trade off here is the car makes you feel like a rock star with all the attention it gets.

And you will always wish the Camaro was 200 pounds lighter. But on the whole my SS is my most favorite car I have ever owned. And I have owned many. Unless a real Z28 comes out I will be holding on to this car for a long time.

Oops and I forgot to add to try your helmet on in the car. Mine hits because of the sun roof.

I would invest in blind spot mirrors "not sure of the real name" I got them and it has helped a lot!

The visability really hasn't been too much of an issue for me. Granted I do have the rear view Camera and I HIGHLY recommend it. I consider it a must for a car like this. But the mirrors can do all of the work for you, and it helps to lean sometimes to view the blind spots (as you would do with any typical car). Someone also mentioned getting those little blind spot mirrors, I'm going to get them myself. They are little round or square mirrors that attach to your mirror and give you more visibility on the blind spots.

You get used to it in exactly 6.25 hours of driving it.
