LOL aside from the silliness................ a reason behind the camaro being originally called Panther was because GM wanted an animal name like the Mustang. What do panther's prey on?????

"Black panther" or "panther" is a term for any melanistic big cat, regardless of species. "Melanism" is like the opposite of "albinism" -- it's when a creature is born with black fur, instead of with the regular coloration of its species.

In Africa or Asia, "panther" usually refers to melanistic leopards. Leopards mostly eat hoofed animals (in Africa: antelope, especially impala & gazelles; in Asia: chitals, muntjacs, ibex) and monkeys. Sometimes they eat rodents, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish.

In North America, it refers to melanistic cougars. 68% of a Cougar's diet is hoofed mammals, such as mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk and even moose. Other hoofed favorites include bighorn sheep, wild horses, domestic horses & livestock. Florida panthers have an inclination toward hogs & armidillos. Hares, porcupines and mice make nice snacks.

In South America, it may mean a melanistic jaguar. A jaguar's diet consists of 87 species (it's a keystone predator). It eats deer, capybara, tapirs, peccaries, dogs, foxes, pacas, armadillos and domestic livestock (such as cattle and horses). Occasionally it will even eat anacondas and caimen. It will

In short: panthers like to eat large hoofed mammals. They will also eat smaller mammals, and when really desperate they will attack reptiles, birds, etc.

Part of the reason they went with Camaro is also the french origins of the word, the "buddy" or "pal" reference and Chev at that time was big on giving cars a name that started with "C". I see it's already been covered, just read the posts but whatever lol. I would be on the Factory ZL1 far before even thinking of this. If it was a GM factory build absolutely. Not from SLP though, Id rather put 30K into my 1SS and have an absolute killer car than something someone else builds with a false promise of it being a huge collectors item or something. It's all marketing, be smart!

The black and gold reminds me alot of --- A TRANS AM !!!. WIll they be remaking Smokey and the Bandit movies now with the new Panther?

I like the look fine, and SLP engineered would be better performing than the series of mods most individuals would put together on their own. Having said that, lots of people mod because they like doing it and don't care about the warranty. The rest of us might still prefer the ZL1. I don't have to make that decision right now unfortunatly.

Isnt the NEXT GM CAMARO platform known as the Panther????
Perhaps this is the car talked about in past threads.....either way its just the same old formula with different badges.

I can do the same work to my car for less money and stuff some
"Epsilon Performance" badges on it...doesnt make it worth any more than I have into it.

Panther is a nice "Edition" but I think I'll stick with the ZL-1 and my 2SS.

I don't want to sound like a danny downer here, but I'm just curious. How is this car any different from a normal SLP car? Did I miss that in the previous posts? You slapped a mercury cougar logo on it and called it limited edition?

*edit* I"m not trying to be complainy or bitchy here, I am just asking a question and trying to offer an alternate viewpoint.

the ZL1 is cheaper, has some sweet upgraded goodies and in most cases will probably be faster.
You'll see more ZL1's more so then you'll see SLP's Panther. I'd rather have a Panther then a ZL1, personally for that simple fact. What feature on the ZL1 can't you not get on the ZL1? Mag suspension? Thats not a deal breaker for me.

I wouldn't be so quick to say the ZL will be faster either.

Youre not being a downer. Its a good question. It really comes down to a unique theme and styling. In this case its a throw back to the Panther. Much like the 45th Edition, and Transformers Edition. All mainly cosmetic themeing. Its nice to have more options out of te SLP lineup. Also, you get many levels of power to choose from and other a la carte items to select from. I think that mixed with a sequential identifiers really makes it unique. It doesnt make who has it better than those that dont... I think we can all agree having a camaro is awesome enough. Yay for lots of choices both themes/ editions and power options.

That is REALLY, REALLY cool!!!

Everything works together so well!! I think my favorite feature is the supercharger housing - how cool does that look!
