Unfortunately I learned this the hard way. They are way too easy to use, and will have you in a hole that will take years to get out of.
Modding my car is more of a hobby than an investment. Kinda like hunting or fishing. Whenever I get a few extra bucks, it goes in the car.
There is nothing wrong with a credit card. In fact, just about any major purchase I make I use a credit card since I get cash back. The key is to never carry a balance. If you use some sense you can actually make a few bucks off of them.

The real underlying issue here is people buying things don't have the money for.

Yep. People need to learn not to spend beyond their means.

How to hug your camaro
Buy the car that you would most like to get beat in. The other guy will always be faster.

There are only two options in life. Fight or flight. Most people run. Almost all people run. But not us. The difference between us and everyone else is that we run towards the gunfire. And that makes all the difference.

See above.

Just keep track of every dollar you spend for 3 months. You will see where the waste is. But it is whatever you are into to as well. I have friends with huge (5000+ sg ft) houses, or 4 kids, or boats, or whatever. It all depends what your area of interest is.

I mean I bought mine with the thought of..Its brand new, All orignal, I don't have to try to restore it like I would if it was a first generation. I know of how its been cared for..ect. So I spend money once and im done. Where are all you guys comming from in these repressed times of jobs lost. People living on a shoestring spending this kind of money. Im just barely able to afford my dream Car ( This being my SS 45th.)

It just seems to me that people in here have more cash then they know what to do with. Don't get me wrong if you want to take your car apart and spend tons of cash just playing with it thats cool, Its your car to do that with. Me? Im just happy owning one and Trying to keep it in an orignal condition ( My challenge? to make it a survivor) Thats me

I just wonder, where all this money from people comes from? I feel like the poor kid on the street. I could not afford to spend the money I see being spent in here on "Mods" Some of it being spent foolishly. I know Im going to get beat for this

Maybe the real question is not what we are doing right but what are you doing wrong???

36 years old here, married, and have 2 kids. Myself and my wife never went to college and she quit working 6 years ago when my first child was born. I have worked in the automotive industry since high school, working for a major manufacturer for 16 years. We built our home 12 years ago, living in a basement (over 2 years) and building the top as we had the funds. I now have a 3800+ sq ft. home which is paid for, and like other posters, have no cc bills. If I use a card, I pay it off as soon as the bill arrives. It doesn't matter if you make 1k or 100k, it's all in how you spend your money. We don't smoke, drink, rarely go out for expensive dinners, and only take one vacation a year. BTW, I just started taking college courses last year. It will be a slow go, but I'm getting Pell grants and my work gives tuition reimbursement. Work hard, keep priorities straight, and you will never go wrong!

Hey knitetrain05, a lot of us on here understand fully that some are luckier than others and some are unluckier than others. You hang in there and don't quit. Sometimes it's best not to ask SOME questions. One of my customers have more than $2,000,000 (mil that's right) in 12 exotic cars he keeps at both of his mantions. It's all I can do to mod out this one little Chevy car the way I want. You're still more fortunate than many others. It's all relative. We have to learn to be grateful for what we have and enjoy our own journey. Good luck.

Not to be discussed here-fair enough, you brought it up-my situation is not very pretty-but it is what it is. My family deals with the hand we were dealt also. We use common sense and make ends meet. Fortunately we handle what we were dealt and mod the Camaro. It's possible for some and not for others. I am one of the very lucky ones-although I honestly believe we make our own luck! Lots of previous posts about common sense ways to mod your ride. Just sayin' sounds like a personal issue-hope you can Work it out
