my .02... My modded SS feels more like a muscle car to me than a ZL1.

but everyone has their own opinions

Its easy to make a car go fast in a straight line.

Its more difficult to make it fast on the track, and be able to do it lap after lap after lap.

This is where the SS guys with a blower really can't hold a candle to the ZL1.

To the OP...if you are on some kind of budget and/or would rather make your car your own...then I'd go with making your car into a track machine, but of course you will never have the individual track settings and such that the ZL offers, not to mention your ride may get harsh for street use while the ZL1 would be much happier for this kind of driving and you will likely run into issues eventually.

But if you have the money to burn and want the features the ZL1 has to offer...just go for it.

Thank you all for all the input. It's really helpful to see others opinions when making a decision. I feel like I have a broader perspective of what the decision entails. It really comes down to whether I want the customization aspect or whether I want a guaranteed package, fast or faster, etc. etc.

Realistically,

What would be a guess to the quarter mile time on a 2010 SS with a whipple, tune, cai, and magnaflow compteition series axle back?? Just out of pure curiosity. Will it be substantially faster than a ZL1?

Ok lets go bottom line... SS ok nice, ZL1 yea bada$$. If I am at a show and see a SS modified ok very nice. Then I see a stock ZL1 yea I would rather have the stock ZL1. Its like a ABM camaro vs a Black camaro, all day the ABM will win. Plus its 10 black to every one ABM. Sorry off topic anyway ZL1 is greater than a SS... no matter modification. Fool yourself with resale value thinking SS and ZL1 will be the same... not.

If you want a turn key autocross car and to be able to say "I have a ZL1" and don`t mind spending the large sticker price plus the dealer adjustment most are geting, then go ZL1. If you want a car that handles well, not great, run`s 10`s for less than 10 grand, see my setup. 10mph and over a second quicker than a zl1, although since my suspension is stock the zl1 will probably hurt me on the auto-x unless it has some really long straights.., but I`m sure I could build the suspension even better for less money, I however don`t plan on auto-xing this car. I have my wife`s 08 z51 equiped Vette for that.

So decide what you are trying to do with a car, have a plan so to speak and see what fits the bill best.

add headers, gears and sticky tires 10.84@126.72. I would consider that substantial...

Think about resale values.. A stock ZL1 will always outsell and heavily modified SS.

true.. but it will still be a 2 year old SS. With the money you are planning to spend for supercharging.. put it down for a brand new Zl1 and trade in your SS.

Putting the resale value aside ,I wouldn't change my fully tuned ss with a Zl1 .

Supercharger, drive train, axles, Suspension upgrade..... and you have a much better Car which could also be faster. Many super charged SS around here would eat the ZL1's for lunch.

so you think paying 15k over sticker for market adjustments on the zl1 will be able to be recouped a few years from now...

At this cross roads myself suspension would be around 5k brakes another 5k (could probably get a grand or so selling old ones though) super charger another 10k +supporting mods and you got a car that can easily out run a zl1. HOWEVER! you won't have the look, mag ride, entertainment center, wheels etc etc, would need to blow another 5k+ for that minus mag ride, though considering a low miles SS goes foor under 30k you'd still be cheaper.

Personally what i'm debating is doing an engine swap to the LSX454 and pro charging that with supporting mods and suspension mods it would be around 30k which is the current difference between my car and zl1. I'm waiting a year though till new electronic package comes in before making my final decision.
