And with the situation GM and these dealers are in they should be doing everything possible to peak interest and sell these cars.
Interest hasn't peaked enough? They won't have ANY trouble selling Camaro's this year.

If anything, the best thing about having a Camaro stay the lot is that it gets people into the showroom. Once they're done looking, they're potential customers, maybe to order a Camaro...maybe to order another car. If you're going to sell the car no matter what, why put miles on it and lower its value? Why take it out of the showroom for an hour to increase the chance of a customer coming in to see it and walking away disapointed because the car isn't there?

Peaked enough on what everyone has READ? Been told? Going to spend $30K or more on a vehicle that has been on the road in customers hands for about a month and base it solely on their reviews? A limited number at that? Sorry, not me and not a lot of people. I absolutely love the new Camaro, but I refuse to spend $30K on something I cant sit in and drive first. What I don't understand is why a dealer would have a policy that you can only test drive if you plan on buying right then? Why offer a test drive at all? Obviously if the customer has their heart set on buying the vehicle they don't need to test drive it. They can drive it after they buy it. With the perception most of the people in this country have of GM and it's dealers already, you don't need to be giving them any other reasons to shake their heads and say FAIL.

That's understandable. However, the Camaro is in such high demand right now that dealers are better off not offering test drives. This isn't a FAIL, it's common sense.

However, if a test drive is the ONLY thing stopping you from buying the car then most dealers would give you the test drive...if you're really serious about buying the car. That's how it should be with any car. The OP would have had a test drive if he seriously wanted to buy the car instead of just a free joyride. If he'll be ready to buy the car in a year, then he should go in for a test drive in a year.

If you're advocating that dealers should offer joyrides to non-serious customers than we'd have even more dealerships going out of business than we do now. Everytime you take a car out on the road it loses its value and wastes a salesman's time.

No. Read post #15. It's by the person who started the thread. He's thinking about buying one in 2-3months. The dealer that told him no probably just screwed themselves out of a sale in 2-3months. Test drive the day you plan on buying is not a good policy IMO.

I dont agree with car dealerships being toy stores, you just cant go around test driving cars for kicks... he clearly said he is in no way buying that car and just bought a home, what interest would the dealer get out of him driving the car and putting miles on it for the next real buyer?

Then he should try to test drive it in 2-3 months. Saying "I'll buy it someday maybe" isn't good enough for a car this hot. In 2-3 months the orders will be still be just as heated...they haven't even advertised this car yet.

Thanx

The thing i didnt like about them is they liedddddddddd.

I spoke to the sales 3 times on the phone and told him my situation about the house he understood. He said 3 times that I could come in and test the blk/ss manual. I called him that day and he said to come in and I could test it.
this was an obvious tactic to get me there and pressure me into buying it.

Thats why I was pissed off.

I don't see why people are jumping on the poster. I mean how can he tell the guy he's going to buy the car, when he hasn't even driven it. It's not like they're going to let him thrash it in a test drive anyway. I've test driven cars a few times, and i've driven extremely conservative. If they don't want test drives of their only Camaro in stock, okay. On the other hand my dad told me a couple years ago he was down the street from a dealer, and this new truck tears into the parking lot, and it's like a lot boy from the dealer. He was driving like a maniac . I also recall many years ago i was having my third gen worked on at the dealer, and one of the older salesman was telling us how fast the new 4th gens were, and how they had worked them through the gears.

You didn't mention this before. Now I can see why you were angry.

That is really good to hear. The delay in the manual shift mode on my mom's Mazda3 drove me crazy. It was the only non-sporty element of that car. Sadly, getting an automatic in the 5th Gen just requires bad sacrifices. In V6 models, you lose the LSD. In SS models, you step down to the L99 with barely any fuel economy benefits. But other than those issues, I've heard nothing but positive reviews of the automatic tranny.

Ok.
Now that makes sense. I would be pretty ticked off as well.

Scott, I hope you and/or other powers that be at GM are taking serious, detailed notes from people here and other forums when it comes time to make the decisions as to which dealers get the axe. I just read today that Henderson and LaNeve are getting formal notices and letters ready for the 2100 dealers they intend to close, and will begin informing the dealers by the end of this week.

Let the bastards who gouge and play these bait tricks and waste potential customer's time be the first to get the letters!
