i would just like to say one thing. 2 years ago my aunt, who has always been extremely close to my family and i especially me for some reason me and her have always held a very close relationship, was mowing her lawn on a thursday morning around 9 o'clock when a drunk driver crossed the road and hit her. the driver was driving a truck and when the driver hit her it was with enough force that the mirror on that side of the vehicle was torn from the truck. my aunt went to the emergency room and was in critical condition for many days and after that was still kept in the hospital for roughly 2 weeks being monitored. before the accident she was the headmistress of a school in Florida and getting ready to accept a job at the university of Florida teaching a class. i am glad to say that she lived through the accident better than any of our family members could had hoped for but ever since that day she has to have help with everything that she does from eating, walking up the stairs, getting in and out of bed, and everything that we take for granted every day. i share this story to let every one know that i do not take the statistics lightly and blow them off and say "oh that will never happen to me", i do understand the great responsibility that comes with driving. and ever since that day whenever i hear about some of my buddies who are old enough to drive already saying that i can catch a ride with them and i see more people than the car can hold jump in and everyone is laughing all i can think about is that morning that my parents picked me up from school and told me that there had been an accident.
so once again thank you for all of your help. i just wanted to share my experience with this car that we all have been anticipating for so long.
I hope you are able to get it

Lol this topic is always a heated debate on forums, I always have to chime in with my 2 cents and I'm going to again.

Firstly... How a person writes or comes off on a first impression has absolutely nothing to do with there ability to drive or operate a motor vehicle. Also, I realize there are a lot of kids getting into racing at a young age, and I think its great. One thing parents have to realize is that regulated racing is so much different than your son or daughter driving around in a car full of their friends or, god forbid under the influence of drugs or alcohol. One of the guys I would consider to be one the best drivers I had ever seen completely wrecked his car when we were teens because of alcohol.

This isn't to say that if you buy your child a car with barely any power it will keep them from wrecking it, but I can tell you, driving a fast car with power will get the driver a lot of taunting and egging on to bury the throttle. In the end, my opinion, a child should get the most reliable, safe, vehicles the parent can buy. I'm also a big advocate of buying a car that can be fixed up, that can teach a child a lot of respect for a car. Anyway that's my 2 cents.

It's not that "all" teens "can't" drive. It's HOW they drive. Any you only notice the bad drivers, because the good ones blend in with the traffic.

I'm sure I was perfectly capable of driving from point A to point B when I was in the 5th grade just from watching my parents for years... but I'm sure I wouldn't have been as skilled as I am today at 26.

And I'm curious... how can a 17 year old afford a $36,000-$40,000 sports car?

well i get in the car and my mom has a big stack of papers and i knew where this was going..............they are safe and good looking..................a FJ Cruiser, RX 8, a subaru, minicooper, 350 z, Kia Soul, and a few others that were along the lines of the Kia.......................

we pull in the entrance of the dealership and there she is a 2LT with the RS package in midnight silver (the exact car that i had been dreaming about for 2 years now)..........................
First of all... A picture is worth a THOUSAND words, no more, no less And you're lucky that your parents are considering buying you a car at all. Beggars can't be choosers.

Have you thought about how much this is going to cost your parents? Or how much it would cost to insure a 16 year old in a sports car? When I was 16, I didn't even think about driving because I didn't have the money for it, and I knew my parents weren't going to foot the bill.

FJ Cruiser? That's a big, 4-wheel drive (i believe) SUV. Why didn't they just print out a picture of a tank? Or maybe a Hummer, since they get "horrible" mileage and they're hard to sell with these high gas prices. They should force you to drive a piece of shit, brand new $7000 KIA.

What business does a 15 year old kid have driving a $30,000 2LT/RS?

Is your dad filthy rich, or what? If he really cared about the kinda car that you drove, and personally wanted you to have a Chevy Camaro.... he'd help you buy a 20-year old beat-up Camaro that will always have something going wrong with it. And he'd have you work off the debt by being his slave around the house. And every month when another vital part on your Camaro craps out, you both work on it together.

Does "common practice" make doing something the right thing to do? You should read over all your comments again. It looks like you're trying really hard to convince people that you're ready to get what you want. I'm sure you're perfectly capable of "driving" a Camaro... but should you be? Just because it's what you want? You haven't lived half the lives of most the guys who post in these forums....... but I can only speak for myself........ and I don't want some kid with a heavy foot plowing into me while I'm driving my Camaro.

How a person writes or comes of gives you a great impression of their mental capabilities. I could teach a chimp to drive a tractor... doesn't mean that I should let him plow the fields on his own. I can't teach that chimp to write or speak though....

I wouldn't buy a kid a car to race... like Hulk Hogan did with his dipshit son - who also happened to wreck a number of cars and hurt a person or two.

Parents aren't afraid of "regulated" racing. [not all] Parents aren't taking their kids to the track or the drag strip on the weekends for fun. Parents don't want their kids driving like idiots on public streets. If racing, or dirt bike riding, or shooting guns and hunting is a family hobby that you've grown up with, then great. You know more than your average 16 year old, but you don't know more than the 50 year old who has been doing it all for so much longer and has worked for what he has.

I don't disagree with this ControlFreak over here... a kid should get a car that will get him where he's going. And if it breaks down, then you can work on it together, and learn how to fix these problems as they come along.

Low horsepower cars can still go fast... it just takes longer to get up to speed. It's safer for the inexperienced driver.

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME...

How Does A 16 Year Old Get A $15,000 - $20,000 Loan With No Credit History?

I hope you can get what you really want. You are very well spoken and sound like an outstanding young man(we know that doesn't make a good driver...but...), with the experience that you do have driving, the respect and responsability that you show....I think you are many steps ahead of the average person turning 16....male or female. Good luck man
