So for those who have it/have tried it, what do you think? I plan on getting this car in two or so years when I finish trade school, and I definitely want the Z28 if it's out.
I was able to play with the tap shift a little yesterday. If you are driving easy it will have a noticeable lag. If you punch it the shift points are quicker and you feel the grab. It does not have the feel of the self imposed thrust you get from a manual, but the rocket feeling at higher RPM is definitely there.

It is a great alternative to a stick if you are not interested in the clutch requirements.

In DRIVE, trans ALWAYS starts in second -- cannot engage first gear.

I havn't been on roads (traffic) where I can try various launch methods -- yet. So I would like to hear from other L99 owners on best method for fastest launches. It would seem like the tap-shift first gear start is the best (and only) way to go --- but the gearing makes for a VERY quick shift to second and introduces the same kind of timing issues as driving a manual 6-speed.
Sir, you just might be the man to ask. Let's say you're in competitive mode (or any other as far as that goes) and pull up to a stop light, then TAP it down to first gear. Then, shift the stick back into drive. Will the car then start out in first gear, or will it automatically default back into second gear once you move form M to D? Thanks ahead of time, for taking the time!

Hope this doesn't disappoint but I was at my dealership yesterday and they had a 2SS in the shop with 455 miles that would not come out of first gear. It had the auto with tapshift. I asked them what they were going to do and they said they were going to replace the trans. The cars vin # was 000485.

Croathlete, I was just getting ready to respond to your post, then I saw Onechuck's post, and started laughing. Damn!!! Anyway, you're right...there just has to be a way for the car to start off in 1st, in Drive!!! I can't believe that we're forced to lose out on such a great low first gear?!

Im sure this is something that could be reflashed with an ECU upgrade if this is the case.

It just might have to come down to that, along with firming up the shifts too.

And some of us live in big cities where we get caught in traffic most of the time and don't feel like shifting every 10 seconds...

You bring up an interesting point --- but I havn't tried that yet. I thought of this , too, but finding a proper road space with little/no traffic has been an issue. You know when you go WOT with one of these, you draw A LOT of attention --- and you also would like to do several launches -- for comparison. Anyway, I will try this today if possible.

Somebody out there must have done some 0-60 runs or had one (L99) on a dragstrip already. I'd love to hear how it went.
