How is the Tapshift Auto?
So I'm looking on buying this car and while I would love to get it stick, in all honesty, I'm not very good at it. I heard that a higher-torque car is easier to drive stick because the clutch connects almost by itself under torque, but I'm still considering the Tapshift if it's a viable option on the V8.
So for those who have it/have tried it, what do you think? I plan on getting this car in two or so years when I finish trade school, and I definitely want the Z28 if it's out. |

Tap Shifter Fan
I'm ordering an SS with auto. I'm currently driving a VW Passat (6 cyl) with Tiptronic. Over the years I have learned to love it. I chipped the shifter as the factory option had too much of a lag in shifting. It now is a very quick shift, and fun. I'm just too damn old for a stick, bad knees, short attention span, aged induced memory loss, etc. etc.
I think the auto will be fun and by the time I get my car someone will have an upgraded chip for it. |

I think the only thing that has me in this kind of dilemma is whether or not I want to be (easily) revving this throaty V8 at a stoplight and (easily) burning the tires on dry pavement every once in a while. :P |

If you don't really want it, don't worry about it. There have been numerous posts about it and people seem quite happy with it. If you get it and aren't happy, there will be tuners who are able to adjust it soon enough.

Wish I could still drive a stick... a hernia years ago ended that, well that and stop/go traffic everyday. Sadly, I am going with the TapShift automatic out of necessity... but, I am really looking forward to reading some feedback here while I wait for mine to arrive!

Same as punching it with a good solid automatic.
I had a car with it once and only used it a couple times, to show chix, that's about it. Otherwise punch it and let KITT do it (the computer knows what to do when you stomp it). |

would a stick be smart to have in a place like L.A.? i'm probably going to be moving there
i really want to learn to drive a stick but i'm scared i might mess up parking it or turning a corner if i don't downshift or put it on neutral properly

the camaro is a "shiftable automatic" and the ferraris were actually flappy paddle dear boxes? where when you pulled it, it actually did the work of a manual for you? i know the newest ferraris are, but i dont know when you worked for them..like, the f430 scuderia...when you pull the paddle, it switches faster than you can blink an eye ![]() but, i do not think the camaro can do that, it would be the first shiftable that can
