I have run K&N filters on a lot of vehicles chev P/U to be exact two in of them I towed a 6000LBS boat and trailer. Both trucks had 5.3 LS motors in them. Sorry on bad #7 cylinder. This smells like a overheated cat.

So, if it's K&N brand...just get a different one. Mine has a different one. Dry flow. I'm the brother who bought the SS, and yes, this has been the talk of the town up there. Haven't seen the bulletin, but why would service techs go nuts? Usually they are all about modding your car. I believe there is some legit information here. Whether the dealer twisted its way out of paying for a motor or whether the failure really happened due to that part (doubt it) is what we will never know.

As said earlier....... its not the cai, its the lack of care by the owner.
I swear, some people should not be allowed to buy a car unless they take a course on care and maintenance. You have people blowing out clutches, not checking oil, coolant etc.........driving the piss out of their car till it blows.....then have the audacity to fully expect the dealer to fix or replace it for free. No wonder they get squeamish every time someone brings a car in with some modification.

The plastic piece on my convertible top is loose. I need to take it in. I also have a K&N CAI. Hope there's no 'bulletins' on that combo.

Well I was not able to get a bulletin number. I guess I will chalk this up to shop talk, as someone else said, and let it go at that.

Sorry if it seems like I mislead everyone..I wasn't trolling and was just trying to let everyone know what I heard. Anyway, if anything changes I will update you guys/gals.

which dealer? I'm glad in my shop my service manager is a GM world class technician. Basically black belt and highest level for GM techs. There's only 8 in Houston.

Don't worry about it, someone intentionally mislead you and you were only trying to be helpful.

Since no sb was found, I'll speculate based on what I have logged on my LS3 with HPTuners & a K&N CAI.

They claim ~18 hp gain... they get that by it leaning out up top with the intake since it's in open loop WOT. I logged leaner WOT narrowband 02's and a bit more KR before tuning so I'll speculate that an excessive lean mix on some LS3's may cause #7 piston to fail (most likely ring lands) since #7 is leaner than the rest already. The factory tune is pig rich up top so I doubt the intake leans it out enough to cause a problem.

I can see how a piston failure may be blamed on any mod, but it is most likely just K&N bashing. My 2 cents.

I'm installing a wideband 02 this week in bank 1 to see what's what.

I can understand it from a standpoint of getting GM Used Car Certified, I would think that the vehicle needs to be absolutely and completely factory stock from head to toe.

As far as this mythical TSB, you will not find it. MS3DALE would have verified it.
