When I drive our other car (automatic) which is about half the time - my left foot has to do something so I left foot brake. I've done that for 40 years whenever I drive an auto tranny . Just happens naturally as I switch back and forth between the two cars. The left foot can't be still - it needs a job.

Congrats on the new ride! Lets meet up sometime...and dont worry, I did the same thing when I got my car. The stupid hill assist came on and I was slipping the clutch at a light when I stalled it. New plates on the car and all...I felt like a tool.

Yeah, especially with HSA
Stall several times a week (or used to, now I just roast the clutch) and people give me 'the look' like I can't drive stick

Dont feel bad. I have been driving a manual for 32 years and I still leave in neutral every once in awhile.

I pulled into the parking lot of a bank to pull some $$$ out of the ATM. I thought I engaged the parking brake but I was Sooooo wrong. I turned around and was dumbfounded when I saw my ride in the middle of the the only lane in and out of the parking lot. What's worse is that my girlfriend was in the car screaming her head off... I was truly lucky that my stupidity didn't cause an accident or harmed anybody...

I guess it all happens to us once...

Driving manual, putting it in neutral, then trying to drive away.

Driving automatic, hitting the brakes full on because it feels like it's time to shift. Gave my brother a good shakedown of his brakes at the time in his new 3 series lol

Switching from automatic to manual after 3 years, and (almost) forgetting to press the clutch when having to slow down to a stop after a long drive. Then realizing you're still in highest gear when you want to drive off.

Getting the gear wrong in a new/loan/rental car while driving off the first time, inevitably stalling it.

But best of all I ever saw: friend of mine having a go in our RHD race car. For the first five minutes he was constantly reaching for the door handle instead of the gear stick

I kind of have the opposite of OP happen. When I get in my truck, on rare occasions, or another vehicle I try to use my clutch foot and often ride with my hand on the column shifter out of habit.

First ever test drive of a SW with IOM stripes 2SS 6sp....Me, wife in the passenger seat, and 6ft salesman in the back seat. I start off in it without having driven a clutch in yrs (others than tractors) and kill it...Right in the parking lot. That scene in the Jeff Gordon video lurching to a stop right from the spot.

I then proceeded to restart and overcompensate...giggling the whole patch of rubber. I drove around the block without incident, but she shore as heck wasn't gonna die again.

I was afraid to go outside and see that the car rolled away and been damaged, kind of felt like leaving home and you didn't close the garage. Luckily when I did go back outside the car was fine and the brake was engaged and I had a big sigh of relief.
I was just learning a manual back in the 80's with a 68 Nova 6cyl.
Went to the store just round the block from home. I didnt leave it in gear nor
did i use the parking break and when i came out the car had rolled
backwards into a fairly new 83ish gm truck. Luckily the owner was
understandable and didnt make a report whew.... lesson learned !

OP dont beat your self up.. we all have been there before ~
