also check out your rear quarter panels carefully. I got whacked hard but not bumper damagey and the bumper looked OK and I didn't care so much about the car (Pontiac Sunbird) and just waved it off (was light rain, she had head up ass and slid into me, i got off the brakes and the momentum transferred more to pushing me forward instead of ruining car).

I missed at my cursory 'i can't believe you were that stupid to rear end me' glance I didn't notice the quarter panel had a pinch in it right at the apex of the curve on the panel above the real wheel.

ended up just selling the car as is, it was a cheap car/over six years old when I got rid of it anyway but just cemented my 'call the cops every time' after that. In the state I lived at the time (KS) it was an 'at fault' state and rear ends are an automatic ticket for whomever hits you.

This is bad advice, you have 72 hours to report an incident regardless of who is at fault. You risk being cancelled if you do not comply. Plus you dont want to rely on her insurance to get your car fixed. Your insurance company will get the money back , trust me!

(same state as the op) For me i got the police report, their insurance totally covered the damage to my car. I have a guarantee from the body shop that did the work. My car looks good as new. I had way more extensive damage than the op's car. When i called my insurance the next day (2nd call to them regarding my accident) they said i didn't have to call them unless i needed them to get involved. He said unless they are getting involved they can't do anything for me. If at some point in getting my car fixed and the other insurance didn't fix my car or dragged their feet, yes i can get my insurance involved. Now it is reported on my insurance and has been following me. This is just my experience from what happened to my car like the op's similar accident. Do what you want with your insurance company and good luck.
Not only does it depend on your state but could be down to your insurance POLICY! If you don't contact them in X hours or at all of you being in an accident they could drop you.

IMO, I have only been in 1 accident my entire life (knock on wood) but it is always a good idea to bring in your insurance company even if you're not at fault. Even if the other person's company is willing to work with you, who is to say that they complete the transaction to YOUR satisfaction?

In this day of who has the biggest PUNCH in the courtroom, I'd rather have a corporate lawyer that does this thing daily then to have to go pay for my own.

In the end, you're paying your insurance company, so let them do some dirty work for you, even if you don't end up in a courtroom and everything goes smoothly.

I spoke with my insurance company and discussed a plan of action. Tomorrow, I'm going to try and get an adjuster from MY company to come look at it and lock in the damages. That way, if I ever need to use my company, they will already know what they are working with instead of waiting for a month. Should I get estimates form 3rd party body shops? How does the repair process work? Do they choose a shop?
For the exhaust, it could have been bent. When you take it in for an estimate have them look at it really good and not just the rear, have them look over the whole exhaust. A buddy from work was rear ended at a low speed and ended up doing damage all the way up to the headers and the shop had to replace the whole exhaust.

The parking sensor could be broke or the fascia could be broke where it connects to the sensor or both. The fascia will have to be removed to tell for certain.

Most companies give you a list of approved shops and you can take your pick from those. Get multiple shops to give estimates if possible. Each shop will have different ideas on what to repair or replace.

Good you reported to your insurance because another auto was involved and also got a police report. Be sure repair work is warrented for life.

Two rears ago got bumped on the rear and only had about a 1/4" chip on the center of rear bumper that had to be filled and painted. My insurance handled everything and said they would deal with the other insurance company. Repair $700, plus 3 day rental. I did not pay anything out of pocket & work covered for life.

Covered for life is important. Years ago had a new auto, also got bumped on the rear. Only required bumper paint. Work was only covered for 3-years. 3-1/2 years later paint started to flake.

She kept saying her tag was invalid because she moved here from New York a while ago, but never changed them. I'm not 100% on the whole license thing, but I remember her being worried about it too. The police report still has not been generated (can take a few days), so if she did get cited, will I be able to see it there?

As for reporting it to her insurance, she gave me a policy number and said it was with Velox insurance. I gave them a call and they said it was a "buyer number" and referred me to MILES insurance. I submitted a claim with them, but the agent sounded like she barely knew what she was doing. It is now Tuesday morning and I have not heard a peep out of her insurance, but I have spoken with my insurance 3+ times now. That being the case, I took my car into my insurance company last night for repairs and got a rental in the mean time. Speaking with my agent, she said she may even be able to waive my deductible if she can get a hold of the other insurance people fast enough. Either way, I don't mind as my insurance company seems to be doing a great job so far. They told me the repairs will most likely be done at Rick Hendrick Chevy.

The Answer : Me calling the cops and a messed up rear end. I just wanted to get home from work on my Friday :/

Same thing happened to me except she was slightly hot, I could see her lower her top when getting out of car so I'm assuming to persuade me to not call cops. She wanted to give me $100 bucks and I laughed. Started calling the cops after I asked her if she had no insurance and she said no. Once I was on the phone she gunned it back into the car and took off. Turns out it was a stolen car, go figure....

OMG, you missed out on perfect opportunity to enact a scene straight out of Smoky and the Bandit! Unless she was driving a super car, you should have jumped back in and followed her until the cops show up. Hit my car and leave?! Please... lemme show you what I can really do!

.... I need to calm down a bit

Anyways, no estimate yet. I'll keep you guys posted.

I see you have Gwinnett tags, where did the accident happen? I might be able to pull some strings to get your police report faster.
I had a similar incident back on 9/13/13 in Gainesville, stopped at a red light then boom. It looked like a dent in my bumper but the estimate was almost $3k.
I called my insurance company right after I got off the phone with the police to let them know what happened.
Luckily the lady had statefarm and they had the car repaired, but then they sent me a check for $80 to cover the loss of value to the car.
I am currently fighting that as I type this since the dealer that sold me the car wrote a statement that the value of the car went down $2500 due to the accident.
