I agree with you 100%! Chassis dynos make it difficult to achieve accurate results. Not that its impossible but the operator is 50% of the eqaution with a chasis dyno.

The numbers for cold verses HOT intake referred to in a previous post where real and verified results BUT the testing was under more controlled conditions than most "dyno operators" would attempt to use. Anyone who tells you that they can pick up 4hp on a chassis dyno and prove those numbers constantly with true scientific testing using the ABABA method are correct but the testing procedure that must he adhered are not found in any chassis dyno room I have ever seen. Not that it can not be done or is being done but I never seen any myself. The problem is that many operators do not use the proper testing procedure or take the time to properly verify there results. I have given many presentations on this very subject and I find people rush into dyno testing and don't baseline there variables and hold them within a minimal tolerance for accurate results. The variables involved such as air inlet temp, oil temp, water temp, head temp and a host of others need to be controlled and 99.9% do not. Dyno tuningitself as well as verifying results on a dynometer is not as simple as it looks. The power figures quoted by my wife "Prostock69" where done on an engine dyno and the testing procedure was to use a heater to get the manifold to 130F then cool it down to ambient 70F. This test was done on many different engines and I have done it on everything from Pro Stock engines to Super Stock engines. It gives an indication on how bad a particular manifolds heat range effect mixture density, detonation sensitivity and power. Plastic manifolds as on the newer cars do not have near the heat soak problems of the older aluminum intakes but they still effect the power slightly.

I took off the vanity cover within five minutes of getting the car. I would not take off the second cover. That is an insulator not a cover. Its designed to hold the manifold temp constant and prevent heat soak in traffic. The air flow through the manifold will have a cooling effect which the second cover holds in. Don't take it off. I took vanity the cover off so it would not TRAP the heat and hold it over the manifold. I want to duct cold air to the manifold and have a design I feel will work. Just need to find some time to play. Yea, like that will happen.

The L99 manifold test was not done on the dyno below. I simply wish to show what one must go through to achieve a high level of accuracy in dynometer testing.

My brother on the dyno. This photo shows the extreme lengths one must go to in order to achive test results that vary no more than .2%. Yes, that two tenths of one percent! At Reher Morrison we had problems finding 1hp difference on Pro Stock engine so we had an air system installed that cools the ambient temp to 45°, rings all the moisture out then heats it up to 70° and introduces what ever humidity we want. In this case we hold a steady 50%. This way the correction factor only varies slightly with baro. Its the upper end of high tech testing. There are maybe twenty dynos in the country with this level of accuracy.

I took the insulation off the underside of the vanity cover and reinstalled it. But at the track it will come off completely for as much cooling as possible and less raceweight. Yes I know its not much but every little bit helps. I also plan on rerouting the heater hoses that lay on top of the intake, those have to transfer some heat...

Cold intake

The best thing you can do it take off the cover and call it good.

It used to be mine, I sold it 2 years ago. Here`s a vid of me running a C6 z06 w/ it, he had headers, CAI, tune and drag radials. Mine was a LT1 heads and cam stock bottom end no power adder w/ a 4k stall and 3:73 gears not to mention MT drag radials:
