It remains to be seen if the 6th gen will be able to top the sales, image and acceptance of the 5th generation. The 6th generation is off to a very good start, with some signs that it will top the 5th generation in performance.
If handled right, the 6th generation should be a very good Camaro edition.

Alright, this was funny, just for fun I built a 2016 Camaro and for $51,800 it showed a car with no wheels and a gutted interior... Sorry the picture isn't the greatest, but I took it with my phone off of my computer screen... I guess that's how they cut weight on the new model

I think the Gen5's were a tremendous value. You could get a base 1LS 300hp+ car for just over 21K a 1SS for just over 31K and a ZL1 starting in the mid 50's
Now we see the Gen6's, and they cost quite a bit more. The base 1LT with the 4cyl is almost 26K and if you add the v6 the price is 28.2K. That is a $6K jump over the 1LS. The 1SS is similar in price jump with a base price of 37.3K. Again 6K price jump over the Gen5 1SS. What will be the price of the ZL1? My money says the base will be 59,995 not including destination price. That would be in line with the 6K increase that we have seen across the board. And you can't go much higher since that is where the HellCat and GT350R (with necessary track upgrades) are in price. As to my opinion of the Gen 6. They look amazing. Power is great. Interior is solid. I have 2 complaints. First complaint: after sitting in a couple of the Gen 6's, you are DEEP in the car. My shoulder is below the glass and I am 6'2". I would wonder how someone 5'0" would feel driving the car. Second complaint: Tires. Summer only run-flats on a 1SS. $$$ First you need all season tires, second get rid of the run flats and lower the price $500. Run-Flats should be optional, not standard. My 2 cents |

I think the sixth gen looks great and the specs are better than the 5th gen (weight n HP) that said, my zl1 didn't get any slower or lose any of its awesome styling! I personally will keep what I have fully expecting future gens to have advantages and disadvantages..........buts that just me! I do however plan to test drive as often as possible for the fun of it!

It depends on what you are talking about when you say better. From you post I assume you are talking mainly about HP. To me it's better in every way and will rule once it gets more power.

I picked the ZL1 over a 6th gen SS. It is roomier and I am sure will run with or exceed the new SS on the street, 1/4 or race track. Plus it is very rare. I just bought mine a month ago and 3 times I have seen people take pics of it in parking lots.
Sure the CA6 SS is a nice car but it is easy to go over $50K. My 2015 ZL1 will hold its value better and I paid less for it than a loaded CA6 SS. Actually I think the 2012-13 ZL1s are the best looking Camaros ever, but I am happy with my 2015, the second best looking Camaro ever. As for speed with the ZL1 you can go as fast as you want, no worries there. And the car is built to take it. Not knocking the CA6 SS. I am sure most people will be thrilled to own one. For now I am thrilled with owning a ZL1. I might consider a new ZL1 version but if it's $70-80K forget it. If I was buying a CA6 SS I would go for a base 1SS with NPP. Mag ride is nice, but not a night and day difference over the base SS. It is better than my 1LE was, but I expected that. The only thing that disappoints me is there is no stereo up grade. I suppose you can upgrade aftermarket, but that can be a PIA. I don't think I would miss anything else in the 2SS.

Except on trade-in value. Your modded car's trade-in value will tank faster than a Russian plane shot down over Turkey.
By your accounts, I could take nearly any car I get for dirt, put 35K into it and crush any stock and probably most modded 5th gen. This sort of stupid talk amounts to nothing. It's ad infinitum and practically useless.

We should remember...bottom line...What's best for each of us is....what's best for each of us.
I'm hearing a lot of "I think this is the best looking", or "I want this because it's personalized", or "I want this because it's completely new and upgraded" There is no wrong answer, people. Just...don't spit venom at each other for their choices. It is amazing that there are so many Camaro options for everyone - new and old models! We're living the life!!

Even if it's better, I would be happy with a ZL1. I am happy with the SS too. Mod your car a bit to make it more personal to you and you won't find a reason to want a 6th gen. Unless you're financially capable of changing up cars every year. The 6th gen is very fast, the 5th gen is also very fast for most people. What we know is we 5th gen owners are satisfied.

What an awesome time to be a car guy (or gal). One reason I bought my Camaro was that I did not want to miss out on this era of performance cars. We are living in the golden age of hot rodding, so many choices, so much power to be built. While we do not have as many cars to choose from compared to the first muscle car era, the choices are world class. We all have our own vision and perception on how we shall hot rod our hot rods

The nice thing about sinking a lot of money into something cheap is that you can embarass some fairly arrogant owners with expensive cars with your sleeper beater. It just depends on what you want to do. Do you want to be a feared street monster or have a nice blend of power, handling, looks and value for your money. For that, my little ole V6 gives me that in spades so I'm happy. |
