Using the incorrect type of transmission fluid in manual transmissions may affect the sealing ability of the seals. An incorrect type of sealer may not be compatible with the transmission fluid or may not have the correct characteristics for sealing the affected components. Also, the incorrect fluid may chemically attack seals, soft metals or composites inside of the transmission.

Dexron III is being phased out as a product name. It is being renamed Manual Transmission Fluid and carries p/n 88861800 U.S. (88861801 Canada).

If fluid p/n 88861800 U.S. (88861801 Canada) is not yet available when servicing a manual transmission or transfer case, Dexron III can be used in its place.

DO NOT use Dexron VI in place of manual transmission fluid in any manual transmissions or transfer cases that specify Dexron III, as a failure may result.

Okay I've just emailed Royal Purple and given them all the particulars so I'll tell you what they say when they reply, that way it's "official".

Wow that was fast. Got a response from RP! I stand (or sit as the case might be hehe) corrected! The official reply is as follows:

The Tremec TR6060 manual 6 speed comes from the factory with an atf - we recommend our RP Synchromax part # 01512 as a first choice with our RP maxi part # 01320 as a secondary choice.

Using an EP gear oil is not recommended in this T-56 derived transmission - so the RP MaxGear 75W90 is not recommended.

Thanks,

David

Drain plug is on the driver's side near the bottom. It's an inset plug.

i spoke to the dealer today and the guy told me that he's never had a problem with anyone using rp or any other fluid that exceeds oem requirements. the only way it will void your warranty is if they do testing and find the fluid to be the cause of failure. i just picked me up some mobil 1 and some modifier. gonna swap mine out next week. i'm a mobil 1 guy. sorry RP.

Yes I did and the Hurst shifter is now quieter. The trans is even quieter than before believe it or not which is something I wasn't expecting. 4 qts of their Synchromax did the trick. The whole car now sounds quieter, feels smoother and the reduction in gear friction can be felt. I'm hoping to find out here real soon about a company making a 1-piece carbon fiber driveshaft replacement which will make an even bigger improvement.

Changed the differential fluid at 2500mi, the mechanic said it looked pretty bad. Replaced with the recomended GM fluid and additive.

Changed mine months ago at 2000 to Amsoil 75W-90 Severe Gear. Look up the specs and compare to ANYTHING on the market. If you think this is a hard thing to do, you need to have you daughters do it for you. You do not desreve to drive a performance car if you can not change your own dif fluid, especially since it is so EASY.
