You couldn't even recognize these as a 1969 Camaro's Tail lamps which is where I got these from. Though the early 70's Mustang did have boxy lights with a backup light in the middle (and even an amber light in 74), they were not like these.

I was referring to the 1969 Design team getting it right by incorporating them in to the tail lamps. One of the main design influences for the 2010 was a 1969 after all. Yeah the body panel doesn't flow the same way, but it was worth a look see.

-=This was just my opinion, and was maybe a fun thing to share (we can't all be the same you know).=-

I thought it was a neat idea as many people I know have talked about body kits to retro the new Camaro a little more (RS style headlight covers, a bigger tail spoiler).

One interesting thing to note, based on the assembly line photos and obvious body panel lines this car CAN support a different rear appearance altogether (maybe wrap around lights like the 2nd gen '74 up, or another nameplate?, probably not, but only GM knows).

As for other tail lamp designs similar to Corvette, I did have a 1971 Camaro and with that rear end the "C3" style tail lamps looked great.

It'll grow on me I suppose, but the concept lights do look MUCH better than the Silver SS recently seen.

The original tail lamps came from Reggie Jackson's 1969 Camaro (SEMA 2006).

Thanks for the links to the tail lamp discussion on this Mindz!

However, you obviously feel that this looks great. So if you have the time and/or money I say go for it. But my Camaro won't look anything like that.

It is sad that you do not recognize those as a 69, they make the car look very good........
Maybe not better than the afterburners, but still.

I guess it is. For some reason I always think of the first gens as having two lights. I wasn't even aware that they were different on the '69.

I forgot the 67/68 did not have the 3 like the 69, so. I could not figure out why there were only 2 on all the new ones.
So if I was to guess now, I would say 69 was not the primary 1st gen influence for the concepts. If you look at the lines over the 69 fenders (missing) and the curves going thru the doors, windows, they follow the 67/68 lines moreso than 69. still good.

I like the 'chop, its good, but I don't think the 69 lamps look that good on this car. When the concept came out, I was undecided on the tailamps, but they have grown on me now...I like em the way they are. The backup lamps are a different story.... Maybe down the road we'll see a redesign concerning the B/U lamps.

There were no reverse lights on the concept. Personally I like how the car looks. The reverse lights are staying where they are and I think we need to get over it if we don't like it

I see........

So --who told you that?

The facts are:

>gas filler isn't where it was on the concept due to crashworthiness-- we don't want cars exploding.

>Rear bumper changed in order to meet federal impact standards.

>Backup lights moved onto fascia because it was unrealistic to put them where they were on the concept - down with the exhaust tips........

We have struggled to keep this car as close as possible to the concept - because we know it was so well received. That said -- changes DO need to happen for a real world.

There was a picture from early morning down in southern california. Those white lights are the reverse lights on the concept. They are well hidden when off, but show up when they're on.

I agree with your other point.

The first time I saw that photo and every other time since I saw it, I thought those are way too dim to be reverse lamps and they look an awful lot like light coming from another source and shining through the holes where the tailpipes come out.

I'm too lazy to try to find the original picture... so I'm gonna borrow pinkcamaro10's avatar...

LOOK, The concept DOES have reverse lights, it not a reflection, it's not light from another source, they are built in.

I'll look for the original picture.
