Burning Clutch

No you are not imagining this problem. I have owned the SS for 5 month, and its been in the shop @ 10 times. Making a long story short these trannies have problems with the throw out bearings, etc and few dealers have a great understanding of the car. I got a lemon law lawyer the second week, and its paid off. GM just replaced various transmission parts, and muffer assemblies, but apparently it took a lawyer to make Mr Goodwrench to start using his wrench. Having problems with this car, get a lemon law lawyer. I'll be have to share my repair sheets.

i havent had any problems yet but i know the stock clutch is weak, actually getting slight slip/chatter in 3rd gear at just over 5k rpm at wot. i'm replacing it very soon with centerforces dual disc and lightweight flywheel.

I had the same issue, always in reverse, I stopped noticing it around 2400 miles. So either I got better with the clutch in this car or it was something to do with a break in

I got just over 7000 on mine and smell the clutch at times. To me it smells like pissing on a camp fire.

Burning the Clutch smells bad because you are burning a deadly poison, asbestos. I have smelled it and once it even got stuck in my nostrils for a bit.

This thread should be called bad drivers smell.

Mine does it too, especially backing up a steep incline carefully.

i dont thnk ive ever burnt mine...
im always affraid too so i ask the gf if she smells anything.. always no, not really sure what it smells like... but ive never smelt anything bad while taking off so i think im safe?

what exactly is the proper way to engage it while your on a steep incline or @ slow starts?

wont you "burn" it a little in these situations no matter what?

do problems really only occur if your letting off slow and giving a lot of gas? or have it half way and giving it gas? maybe if your stuck on a hill or something?

I was making a U-turn last night and was slipping the clutch while in the turn. Man it stank afterwards! I had some clutch chatter going into first today so I know I burned it pretty good. Hopefully I didn't do too much damage.

Sorry buddy, but I sincerely doubt that any domestic manufacturer has used asbestos in any automotive applications in at least a couple decades. Also, asbestos is not a poison, it is a fiberous mineral whose fine sharp ends cause tissue irritations resulting in a an increased cancer rate among unprotected asbestos worker comparable to the cancer rate among smokers.

Ive got 1200 miles on my car now that was broke in hard , Drag raced 20+ times down the strip , Made 3 dyno pulls and thrashed on every time ive got it out. My clutch pedal has stuck to the floor or halfway to the floor at least a dozen times. It still works fine though. I did decide to take the trans out before Camarofest last fri night and see how it looked. Other than alot of clutch dust and random small hot spots on the flywheel and presure plate it looked fine! The clutch other than normal wear had no flaws. I blew out all the dust , cleaned it up real good with rags and put it back together. On a hoist with no help other than my 2 daughters 4 and 6 trying to help it took about 3 and ahalf hours to complete. For the abuse ive put mine thru im impressed with it!

Yup, there are several clutch issue threads going on. Mine has stuck 1/2 way about 4-5 times so far. Did the brake fluid change, twice. Aggressive take-offs are the worst - smells horrible! Brought it into the dealer on Wed, and of course, it didn't happen on the test drive. It did smell a bit though...So, they (local Chevy dealer) are willing to take it in and see what's going on. Hopefully will be bringing her in on the 12th since I need her this Wed for an appointment with Stillen for some coilovers...
