1) The humm is probably a ground issue due to the line out convertor. Or a crappy line out convertor with it's gains cranked all the way up, or a combination. LOC are a PIA and if one is bought cheaply, can be a big issue. Try grounding the RCA shielding to a solid ground (the outside part of the rca plug), and turning down the gain on the LOC. Also, do you have the Boston Acoustic version of the OE stereo? IF so, you have probably tapped into the powered side of the output of the factory amp. You need to tap the low level side, if this is the case. 2) Also sounds like a phase issue. Meaning with both RCAs plugged in, they are feeding opposite signals. When that happens, you get cancellation. Try reversing the +/- inputs from one side of the high level, ie; speaker wire, to the LOC and see what happens. 3) 500wrms on a w7 is nothing more then a warmup. Also, I'd bet the box is too small. w7s like big boxes, I don't care what JL says. Big and ported to unleash the beast within a w7. You aer running a 12w7, correct? You need at least 2.5 cubes net internal volume to go ported, 1.75 cubes to go sealed, if you want that w7 to shine. To whomeever asked about the Alpine Type X, if it's a 10, you'll want 1.75-2 cubes to port it, 1-1.25 net to run it sealed. That's in my experience with car audio, which includes several years and several custom builds. I'll see if I can;t find some pics of what I have done. ![]() 12w7 in an H1 Alpha, no fiberglass! ![]() 10" monitor in the same H1, where the old climate controls used to live. ![]() 5" monitor in the dash of the same H1..James Herren did the glass work on the above two things, I did the w7 stuff and assisted on the screens. ![]() Memphis M-class 8 and a set of Memphis Sq componets in a Toyota Highlander. ![]() Three Memphis Pr 12s in a Ford Ranger xcab ![]() This is a 4th order bandpass for a 15" Treo SS, that finsihed up in a 71 Impala, looking like... ![]() the box is under the Impala symbol, firing into the cabin. The wires are where the Mc-1100d goes. The other side held the 4 channel for the highs. I'll quit now, lol. Been awhile since I've done, or posted, anything car audio. I got carried away. If wanted, I can show some systems made more for go then show, hehe. |

Did you have the BA stereo? If so, where did you pull your remote turn on voltage from and where did you get your input for your after market amplifier?

Nicely done! Did you have to run any wiring up to the factory head unit? Where did you wire in the remote wire and get the line inputs for the amp?

I love the box,my subs and amp..hook up works great(dunno what the JL guy did..lol)
Upgreaded to alpine type rs..week ago.. I have now a vibartion issue.... but its not like coming from the trunk itself, but the trunk lid. I can close trunk.., wnd put hand-elbow on trunk lid and almost smooth out th evibration noises..lik ethe lid isnt fully welded together...at seems..and th eair from subs(power) is causing the trunk lid to flex/vibrate.. Any idea what best way to resolve this..?.. Rick |

no wiring to the factory head unit required.

nice. I am probably gonna do this down the road. Since it seems like the sound deadener is the hardest job i just might do that when i get some spare time. That can be done before hand to save lots of time later on.
