Is it really cheaper to buy the whole kit as apposed to having an exhaust shop do it?
Buying the kit is a better option for those that live in the sticks without a competent exhaust shop around or for those that prefer to do the work themselves.

Flowmasters are made in the USA unlike Pypes which buys knock offs mufflers from China, of everyones products. They sent me over to Centerforce clutches which had the cat-back on there Camaro they told me when they dynoed the car it picked up 22hp and went from 21.7mpg to 23.3mpg sounds pretty good to me.
with just the flowmaster cat back they picked up 22rwhp????

I don't think the AMT catback comes with Super 44s. If I'm not mistaken, the come with the 40 series which is a little different. Go to their website and look at their muffler product line to get the specs and you'll see these are 2 different mufflers.

Go talk to Brian at BDM Performance Exhaust in Denver. He is very reasonable and won't steer you wrong. He installed my DT shorties and FAMT system. Had I not purchased them months before my car got delivered I woud have had him build a system for me with Flowmasters. BDM 303 922-5280, well worth the call.
As far as "raspy", I agree with Edrock, complete other end of the spectrum.

Thanks for the help. I will call BDM. I was also thinking about getting the DT shorties with the flowmaster cat back. How do you like the shorties> Can you notice any power difference or just sound?

Pypes produces their own unique mufflers and are not knockoffs. If it was a knockoff, another manufacturer would have a similar design, i.e. VIOLATOR

Also, there is no way that the car picked up 22hp with an exhaust alone.

+1 for the american thunder with super 40's, they are stainless, come with a 10 year warranty and in no way sound raspy. This is what I'm running and couldn't be happier. And the video posted above sounds good but as stated, does NOT do the system any justice, it's much deeper and throatier.
