Thanks....but I start to get so tired of people cop bashing and 'stereotyping' all of us due to the actions of one or two (not that you are doing that here).
TAG UR IT, I agree with that statement 100% just remember it goes both ways. I am not saying you do this but...... I have a couple trucks with airbags and when parked they are always layed out but when driving they are at a perfectly legal/SAFE ride height, now the point of my story is my friends and I used to get harrassed all the time by sac pd while the trucks were parked outside my house downtown and it is to my understanding that while parked the truck can be at ANY ride height. Now I know there are some bad seeds out there but like you said just becaused there are a few idiots out there, the cops shouldn't ASSUME everyone is like that. and to the redlight violators YOU DESERVE THE TICKET because you ran a red light |

I just watched a news program that had a segment on intersection cameras. And they showed numerous cities that were taking down there camera’s because they were not making enough money off them!! You see the local citizens that these cameras were put up to bust, learned which intersections had the cameras, and obeyed the laws accordingly. So what happened is the city wasn’t making any money so they had to take down the cameras. So on the surface it may appear that cameras are put up solely for safety reasons, but don’t get it twisted, bottom line IS revenue!! Also when the cameras were first setup, they caused more rear end collisions. This is fact. When people first saw the cameras they would slam on their brakes and get hit from behind. If those cameras don’t make money they will take them down. So please keep the self righteous speeches for the naive people that believe there are no hidden agendas in the city council. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not putting blame on the patrol officer, they do what they are told. But the city/police chief do come up with different ways to make extra revenue especially in this recession. And that is fact as well. On this news program they interviewed a police chief that was admittedly mad that he had to make a profit with these cameras because of the financial cutbacks from the state. End result is these cameras make money for the the city, period.

But they only make money off of people who break the law. That is their problem. I say leave them in place, just fix the dang flash so I don't get blinded when you get your ticket.

Secondly... how often do you really run plates of cars that are behind you? Are you really that skilled at reading backwards? Is your rear view mirror lined up just that perfectly? When it your car going to get one of those automatic license plate scanners? How often to people who have just stolen a car choose to drive right behind a cop? If you're worried about a car that is behind you, how about you merge to the lane next to you and fall behind that car? Call me crazy, but that just seems like common sense to me. California would be a much nicer place if there weren't so many D*****bag cops around here giving some many chicken s**t tickets. They just want that money to keep coming in without doing any work. Cameras at intersections don't stop drunks from running red lights. How about you start ticketing all these old farts who drive 10mph below the speed limit in the far left lane? Huh? How about you start ticketing these people who are causing traffic? How about you start busting these blind old geezers who drive slow, and start frustrating everyone behind them... so they take their aggression out and start driving like A**HOLES just to get around them??? Huh?? How 'bout you just skip that 45 minute break at 711, and get back out on the streets! |

I don't want a front plate........
But I wouldn't mind cameras on EVERY light out there. If you can't stop in time, your going too damn fast, the yellow stays long enough for whatever speed limit the street has. You can sit on any street & come up with big numbers for all the IDIOTS that run a light. I don't take off on a green right away, because some ahole can't wait a few minutes. I'm usually speeding, my bad, but I do not run red lights. I don't drink & drive either...I don't want to put anyone in the hospital, or in the ground. If your on surface streets, you need to be aware of what the hell is going on around you, especially LIGHTS. If it's going red, stop the damn car. If you get a ticket for running it, you deserve it. the person you may hit, or run over, may be one of your own. Sorry, I got carried away. My job has me driving alot & I wish people would pay attention to the road & the lives that could be forfeit around them. 2 months ago, I saw a woman with coffee AND a cig in one hand, AND HER PHONE IN THE OTHER ! STUPID BITCH ! |

Right from California vehicle code:
Positioning of Plates 5201. License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging, shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible. The rear license plate shall be mounted not less than 12 inches nor more than 60 inches from the ground, and the front license plate shall be mounted not more than 60 inches from the ground, except as follows: (a) The rear license plate on a tow truck may be mounted on the left-hand side of the mast assembly at the rear of the cab of the vehicle, not less than 12 inches nor more than 90 inches from the ground. (b) The rear license plate on a tank vehicle hauling hazardous waste, as defined in Section 25117 of the Health and Safety Code, or asphalt material may be mounted not less than 12 inches nor more than 90 inches from the ground. (c) The rear license plate on a truck tractor may be mounted at the rear of the cab of the vehicle, but not less than 12 inches nor more than 90 inches from the ground. (d) The rear license plate of a vehicle designed by the manufacturer for the collection and transportation of garbage, rubbish, or refuse that is used regularly for the collection and transportation of that material by any person or governmental entity employed to collect, transport, and dispose of garbage, rubbish, or refuse may be mounted not less than 12 inches nor more than 90 inches from the ground. (e) The rear license plate on a two-axle livestock trailer may be mounted 12 inches or more, but not more than 90 inches, from the ground. (f) A covering shall not be used on license plates except as follows: (1) The installation of a cover over a lawfully parked vehicle to protect it from the weather and the elements does not constitute a violation of this subdivision. Any peace officer or other regularly salaried employee of a public agency designated to enforce laws, including local ordinances, relating to the parking of vehicles may temporarily remove so much of the cover as is necessary to inspect any license plate, tab, or indicia of registration on a vehicle. (2) The installation of a license plate security cover is not a violation of this subdivision if the device does not obstruct or impair the recognition of the license plate information, including, but not limited to, the issuing state, license plate number, and registration tabs, and the cover is limited to the area directly over the top of the registration tabs. No portion of a license plate security cover shall rest over the license plate number. A casing, shield, frame, border, product, or other device that obstructs or impairs the reading or recognition of a license plate by an electronic device operated by state or local law enforcement, an electronic device operated in connection with a toll road, high-occupancy toll lane, toll bridge, or other toll facility, or a remote emission sensing device, as specified in Sections 44081 and 44081.6 of the Health and Safety Code, shall not be installed on, or affixed to, a vehicle. (h) (1) It is the intent of the Legislature that an accommodation be made to persons with disabilities and to those persons who regularly transport persons with disabilities, to allow the removal and relocation of wheelchair lifts and wheelchair carriers without the necessity of removing and reattaching the vehicle's rear license plate. Therefore, it is not a violation of this section if the reading or recognition of a rear license plate is obstructed or impaired by a wheelchair lift or wheelchair carrier and all of the following requirements are met: (A) The owner of the vehicle has been issued a special identification license plate pursuant to Section 5007, or the person using the wheelchair that is carried on the vehicle has been issued a distinguishing placard under Section 22511.55. (B) (i) The operator of the vehicle displays a decal, designed and issued by the department, that contains the license plate number assigned to the vehicle transporting the wheelchair. (ii) The decal is displayed on the rear window of the vehicle, in a location determined by the department, in consultation with the Department of the California Highway Patrol, so as to be clearly visible to law enforcement. (2) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, if a decal is displayed pursuant to this subdivision, the requirements of this code that require the illumination of the license plate and the license plate number do not apply. (3) The department shall adopt regulations governing the procedures for accepting and approving applications for decals, and issuing decals, authorized by this subdivision. (4) This subdivision does not apply to a front license plate. Amended Sec. 16, Ch. 1007, Stats. 1999. Effective January 1, 2000. Amended Sec. 2, Ch. 626, Stats. 2003. Effective January 1, 2004. Amended Sec. 6, Ch. 650, Stats. 2004. Effective January 1, 2005. Amended Sec. 1, Ch. 273, Stats. 2007. Effective January 1, 2008. How can they deny the front windshield, maybe the visable thing??? I agree, don't do the crime if you can't do the time, don't run red lights.

This thread is pointless. Most people talking about the enforcement of the law, how red light cameras work and their intended purpose are ignorant. I thought this message board was supposed to be about the cars and nothing more.

Well first, if you break the law expect to get a ticket. Don't assume because someone else doesn't get pulled over you shouldn't either. It happens all the time with the CHP. If everyone is going 85MPH the cop can't pull them all over so he chooses one and if you're unlucky it's your fault not the cops.
The red light camera issue I think is just stupid, if you gun it through a yellow light you risk the consequences if a camera is there. Up here in nor cal Ive never had a red light camera get me and they give you plenty of time. Oh and if you know how the system of review works for the cameras you can beat them every single time if they try and issue a ticket. Quotas? That's one big myth I believe everyone tries to justify as their reason to getting a ticket. Every cop Ive asked about it says they don't exist as it might cause them to issue illegal tickets to meet them. Cop bashing is lame, Ive met more cool cops then Ive met asshole cops and have plenty of stories to back it up. Maybe I just live in a normal area where the cops understand having fun doesn't always mean someone is going to die or that kids will be kids. Quote:
