Ok, almost a month later, but I'm back. :(

I've been verifying that it is NOT mechanical. I tore it down to the block and restarted without DOD/VVT.

New:
Cam/gear/timing chain/tensioner
Lifters/pushrods
Springs/retainers/locks
Seals
Trunnion upgrade
Cam position sensor
Crank position sensor

Unrelated, but also did headers, 3" exhaust, head studs. Happy birthday son!

... And when he went to fire it up it did the exact same thing. Fuuuuudge

It acts like it's waaaay out of time. You can hear air going backwards out of the intake. Before someone blames me, these are the same symptoms it had a month ago when I started this thread. It's in the CPU somewhere

posted this on hpt also, but...

it will run on the original tune, but on only 4 cylinders. #s 1,4,6,7 are all dead (now that I have headers I can tell by temps) which are all of the DOD cylinders. When I go through and deactivate DOD it won't start at all. What in the world? It's like it is stuck in DOD mode.

It's just me, but I'd be throwing an ECM at it by now.

how does one go about doing that? Go grab one at a pick a part? A GM dealer can do a clean write, can't they?

I'm know there's more to it than a simple plug in. There's security and VIN features that most likely only the dealer could handle correctly. Wouldn't hurt to call a dealer and ask questions. They might even have a test ECM to try to be sure it's the ECM at all. We do this in the heavy truck world quite often.

Got it running today. Had to get it running in 4 cylinder mode, then update that tune to disable DOD, then write "entire". Started right up. Now I just gotta tune it for all the fun new parts

Thx for your help.
