I bought this one. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...e=&lang=en-US# Have only used it once so far but no water spots on a black car, I hit it with a leaf blower after rinsing...worked great! The in-line one from Griot's posted above would work for a short time, but it is a fairly small filter. The nice thing about the costco one is it has a meter to let you know how much dissolved solids (calcium, lime) are leaving the system.

I considered that one too it looks good, a little large for me, and the resin refills are alot more expensive. Nothing wrong with it though, works well I am sure.
I have loved using mine, so nice to rinse and walk away esp. in the Texas sun.

I do not have a problem with my hard water. This is how I deal with it.

Cleaning the exhaust tips, rear valance, wheels, wheel wells and tires should all be done prior to washing the car's finish, but I'm just gonna tell you how I wash the finish for now....

1. I only wash early mornings rather than run out of daylight w/a dusk wash. (I hate that)
2. I spray/rinse the car off very well.
3. Foam the car w/my foam gun from Target. It's doesn't foam as much as Adam's or Autogeek's but good enough for $7.
4. Grit guards are a MUST! I double bucket wash the top half of the car with a 100% sheepskin mitt (DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE....LET THE MITT AND SUDS WORK FOR YOU) and bottom half of the car with chenille wash mitt. You will not see swirls on the bottom half of the car since the panels curve in preventing the light from reflecting up to your eyes and revealing any flaws on the finish. Don't worry if the soap (I use Gold Class by Meguiars) dries on the car.....it's better than straight water drying on the car.
5. I spray/rinse the car off thoroughly. Then remove the sprayer, lower the water pressure and flood/pool the paint with water. It will just bead off most of the water, especially if you have a good coat of wax on the finish. Now you don't have to go through 5 towels to dry the car.
6. Grab the air hose and blow all the seams, door sills and tail lights. I can't stand it when I drive the car 2 hours after washing and get all these hard water spots and streaks all over the finish......urgh! Especially the tail lights on these Camaros.......they're good at holding water.
7. I use 1 large MF waffle weave towel to dry the whole car. You don't need to rub the car dry with this towel. Just drag the towel across the paint removing the heavy bodies of water. DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE!
8. Finally I use MF plush blue towel and some Mothers Showtime detail spray. Spray and wipe the whole car.
9. All done! Enjoy your swirl free car and cruise.

I do not like to use the leaf blower as method of drying my car. The problem with this is you're disturbing all the dust that has settled on your driveway and surrounding areas (no matter how clean you might think your casa might be) which will now blow around and fall right back on the finish. Also, if you get a good piece of debris that gets into the intake it will shoot it out of there like cannon aimed right for your finish. :(
