Guess you have never see a gas cap laying on the side of the road or sitting in the parking lot of the gas station where someone forgot to put it back on...

I don't understand why so many are having problems with the hook.. I have yet to have mine come off the hook, I just make sure when I put it on the hook the cord has no twists in it to jerk the cap off the hook.. It's not rocket science.. Just take your time when putting it on the hook.

The main reason is the gas cap is a part of the emissions system. Did anyone ever get the CEL and find out that the reason was simply that the gas cap wasn't on tight enough? Well without the cap the fuel tank pressure changes blah blah blah. So it has to be tethered to the vehicle.

I remember years ago, seeing many a gas cap on the side of the road (no doubt placed on the trunk or roof and not replaced) or simply on top of the pump.

Now what I found I had to do on the Camaro was pretty simple. For some reason the tether on the Camaro seems stiffer to me than on any other GM car or truck.

So to remedy the situation, I simply found the place on the thether where it wanted to hand from the hook. I put bend in the plastic at that location. From then on it worked.

Now I will say that all of the Camaros I drove did not have this issue. Number 3 worked great right of the bat. But Mrs. Number 3s 296 SS had a stiff tether.

Try that fix. It worked well for me.

Take a small file to the plastic hook and remove any small burr's that may be present. Mine works just fine. Hasn't fallen off once.

I stuck one of these on the inside of the door. Hook is bigger & deeper, can be placed where you need it, sticks well, can be easily removed, clear so not too noticable

I bought a Gas Cap Caddie but haven't installed it yet... I'm liking the 3M Command hook idea and will give that a try first...

I'm not too sure if this 3M hook design would be a GOOD idea... or a very, very BAD idea:
