yeah i have chips on the gills, hood, front bumper, doors, one on the roof and even a chip way up by the gas cap. it sucks but its just not our camaros taking this abuse i heard its all the new cars/trucks due to the water base paint. i know there was i national geo show on how the camaro is built in the factory and they show the whole painting process. i missed the show but i ordered it on DVD.

I am having mine wet sanded and re-cleared. I had a couple of chips on the front fascia, but I also had a door ding that was repaired. Since I did not want any orange peel in my paint and after talking with a custom painter, he did a test on the door that had to be repaired anyway. He was able to wet sand the door and take out the orange peel without getting into the color. I also had him remove the vinyl stripes and he painted them on, then he buried them in clear so that no edge could be felt. So it was easy for me to decide, since the hood, rear deck lid and one door was having to be re-cleared and I didn't want orange peel, I had him sand the entire car and re-clear it. After he cleared it he then sanded it down again, buffed and polished it. He didn't like one fender so he sanded it down and re-cleared it Friday, so it should be ready Tuesday a.m. He also filled the rear emblem holes ( welded them up ) and painted my Heritage grill. Once this is complete I will post pictures. One thing I can say 100% is there is NO trash, fisheyes or anything in my paint. Cost was 2700.00

Same
Some of us here in NJ have the same issue. My issues stem from the shoulder of the car, some on the gills (not much). Car has 7K miles on it and will be brought back to the dealer this weekend and opened a ticket with GM. Even one of our members with the stupid flares is complaining that he has several chips! My Co-worker who lives 4 miles from work has had his car a month now and bam 20-30 chips. I think it is a shame that i bought a 06 Civic ran it 70K miles and the only paint problems i ever had was from a lady running into the back of my car. 2010 Camaro, 10 months and several little bubbles or white spots. The car is kept clean, i don't get it. Hopefully they fix this issue.

I just called the dealership and asked for the service dept. I told them my issue and they told me to bring the car over to take pic of the damaged area. 2 days passed and i got a call from the service dept telling me that gm is going to paint my car under warranty only once. Goes in tomorrow, should have it back in a week

I know where the 2 chips came from, it happened at the same time. I muddy truck dropped some dried mud off his truck and littered the road with mud and rock, one got my windshield also. So since the hood, door, rear panel, decklid and door were having to be toughed I asked him if he could fix the 2 chips on the front. The main reason I wet sanded and re-applied clear is I wanted the car to match, NO ORANGE PEEL. I have no chips in my gill areas, maybe it has to do with the splash guards I put on, I don't know but that could be it. I had used a high pressure hose on the front of my car where the chips were and did not have a problem. As far as the guy who used a pressure washer to clean his car and it peeled the paint, well come on now that is not GM's fault. I don't know of many automotive paints that will not peel if you catch it just right when the exterior finish has been damaged. BUt I will say this much. I put a spray in bed liner in my truck, Gauranteed for life not to chip, crack, peel, or fade. Now if you believe that, I have some land for sale. There is no way on this earth that a product can do that. If I drop a concrete block in my truck bed and it DENTS the metal, do I honestly believe that the bedliner is stronger than that, NO. Same thing with alot of these chips, a car going 65 meeting a rock, wood, gravel, road crud or whatever, the paint is not going to stand up. Anything with a sharp edge and any speed will cause damage. I had the car wet sanded and the painter said that there was enough material on the car that he could have buffed it out, but becasue of the other things I wanted done it would have looked crazy. Last point I would like to make it I have to friends that have Vettes. One is ate up with road rash on the front and is chipped up, she likes to tail gate. Hers is newer by one year than the other and his looks fine, of course it's not perfect it has a couple of places. Alot has to do with design and body lines. Maybe I am crazy put after a 100 k if there was an adhesion problem it would be wide spread, and a few chips is not bad adhesion, if paint was peeling off in sheets I would agree. JMHO

hey just some info for you guys....
i emailed chevy cutomer service through www.chevy.com. i wrote a little paragraph explaining to them the issues i am having with the paint chipping, in a nice way of course. got a 'no-reply' email short (within the hour) saying they will contact me today during a certain time period. i was like wow ok that was quick. so a guy called me at exactly the time they said they would! i talked to him and he said they "should" cover it because i am still under the bumper to bumper warranty. he asked me if i ever went to the dealer with this issue and so on...he put me on hold for about 5 minutes while he called my dealer personally and talked to the body shop to set up an appointment for me to go and have them inspect it. after he was done he pick up the line again saying that alls i need to do is go to my dealer body shop anytime they are open and have them look at it to decide. i think everyone with this issue should do this. it is painless and better than just letting it go. hey even if they say its not covered and they wont do it for free it wont bother me too much. at least i tried and knew for a fact that they wouldnt cover it because if they did and i didnt do what i just did then shame on me. |

I live in MA. and the roads here suck, mine is three weeks old and chipped a bit. Before this I traded my CTS because it was so chipped up I was discusted, I have also lost three windshields. So I am thinking the chips are because of road debris not a paint problem.

I found the following info on the paint issues. I had to have my rear bumper re painted the 2nd day I had it as the edge margins had chips. The dealer noted that their was a PI and repaired for nothing. I then took my car from Oregon to Arizona in October and returned with not a scratch. Then all of a sudden come this February I notice chips everywhere, especially noted as others in front of the rear wheels. The dealer said rock chips are not warranty, I say that even a bug will chip the paint. I called the factory complaint line and they stated that the dealer should have had me come in to investigate my complaint. I now have a case # and will be visiting the dealership and also will be taking posts from this site...
I also found this PI that was posted and has some interesting comments in the first line: Read the first line of the Quote to Dealers.. Interesting how they state if the customer did not bring there car in for this concern then do not proceed with the PI.. I think that there is definately a paint problem with the new process. I work for the Boeing Co and several of the Painters here of Aircraft state that it is more than likely an adhesion issue as the chips are very small in the areas in front of the rear wheels. I will post more after my visit to the dealership and the update of my case #.. Here is the customer service @ GM complaint dept.1-800-222-1020 There is now a PI (PIE0017A) on the chipping problem on the front fascia. Looks like the PI was revised because of the "A" but I don't remember seeing it before. Here is a copy/paste on part of the PI. There is contact info in the PI that I will not include. There is NO fix on this PI just pictures and info sent to GM Engineering by the dealer. ![]() Quote: Condition Important: If the customer did not bring their vehicle in for this concern, DO NOT proceed with this PI. Some customers may comment that there is an issue with the paint on the front bumper fascia. These can be a variety of paint issues that may include, but are not limited to chips in the paint, bubbles or dirt in the paint and paint mismatch. Cause GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of the above condition. Engineering has a need to gather information on vehicles PRIOR to repair that may exhibit this condition. As a result, this information will be used to "root cause" the customer's concern and develop/validate a field fix. Instructions GM Engineering would like pictures taken of the paint issue and e-mailed to the engineer listed below prior to repairing the paint. The e-mail should include the following information: • Pictures clearly showing the paint issue, including a detailed picture of the condition and the location on the fascia. • Detailed description of the issue • Complete VIN • Vehicle mileage • Dealership contact name and phone number |
